Decked
I've raised a topic on this before however i think i know why i have so much condensation in my car. If felt behing the pasengers seat and the floor including mat is drenched, like a saturated sponge. Anyone else had these problems? Whatever it is it's going into the Garage. Ritey
I know some Polo GTI's had problems with door rubbers not fitting properly and causing water to sit in the rear footwells. If not door rubbers then window rubbers ??? Or even a leaky rear windscreen washer pipe ?
Rachel
In my A4Q I had a problem like that the day I picked up my brand new pride and joy - the first A4Q in the ACT... Drove from Canberra to Newcastle (about 450km) to run in the new toy, during late summer/early autumn and in humid weather... Got to my old folks house and the left footwell was awash! Turns out the return for the aircon was cracked (apparently when installed) and as such water condensing out of the a/c was running properly into the return, but then through the crack, down the outside of the return and into the footwell. It was a stinky, sticky drive back home later that weekend too - as I left the compressor off. It all got fixed within a day or so at the dealers (co-incidentally where 9 years later I bought the R). So - check out your air con. It might be the culprit - or might not, but certainly made my first 2 days with a brand new (expensive) German car memorable. Also as mentioned - the rear washer plumbing. One of the other R32 owners here has a blockage that has caused some small amount of water to go where it shouldn't. It's a big job to do the headliner properly - so if you think it is, pick your dealer/mechanic/body-shop repairer carefully, it's not a job you want done badly. UBM
Common problem on golfs is that leaves slip through the outside grill of the bonnet into the plastic drain manifold in the engine bay under the bonnet. This blocks the two drain holes and all the rain we have then goes into the car causing condensation. Just done my mums over Christmas... Could it be this? fatcat
I thought this thread was about the sound of rushing water (contained within the sills) that we get upon accelerating. Strange but true.

[/ QUOTE ] Dieselmeister, I think Fatcat was merely trying to point out where he has experienced problems with water in his R, and not having a pop. You're info was well recieved, I for one wasn't aware that leaves could get into the engine bay so easily & cause such a problem.
UBM
OK - just feeling a little sensitive as I'm still on my (near) death bed! The leaf problem is true for every car. I cleared out half a bag of John Innes No.1 from my Moms front sills! - and it cleared the condensation problem! My old Mk III golf was the same - sopping wet carpet passenger side, bag condensation, all cos of a few leaves!

Decked
Just spoken to the garage, there taking the car in for a whole week (that'll be a nice Polo then) They has suggested all the problems you've stated above, so thanks guys :')
Gti_Fly
Sometimes the plastic cover for the pollen filter is not fitted correctly. This allows water to leak into the passenger footwell area and make the car wet inside.
R32North
My drivers door was off be a fraction when manufactured and so the seal wasn't water tight. VW 'pulled' the door in a bit to create a tighter fit but it still gets wet in between the two seals (furry one and inner rubber one) when it rains. I didn't buy the car new and before the problem was fixed water got into the car. It was fixed when I got the car but was told about the problem when I saw the water collecting in the gap and spoke to VW about it.
Calm Chris
Fat Cat- How can you possibly hear the noise of water moving around in your sills during take off? During such times, all I hear is the howl from the engine and tail pipes! Is it like one of those wave 'noise' machines? So after the cars been parked, your looking for the mobil in the footwell and you hear this 'wave' noise? The gentle sound of waves.... My wife often tells me that I've imagined her saying something such as "of course you can go out with the lads, all dressed up, spend £400, sleep at a mates house and come home 24 hrs later with South Americian flu and a sweet perfume smell, then go straight to bed for 15 hrs"
english68
If you have a sunroof, you might also want to check where the channel drains to. My last car had consistently wet floors - it was found that the sunroof channel drains down a pipe inside the car that goes down through the floor, it had popped up so was draining onto the carpets! Half a day to find, half a minute to fix!
