Milo
Found this forum by accident and it looked really helpful and friendly! I have a 2003 A4 Tdi sport (130) and the first service is due in 80 days/700 mile by which time the car will have covered 16000 miles. Can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost of the first service? Also, any suggestions for tyres (17") as I need 2 and don't fancy dealer prices. Thanks! UBM
The service should be about £250. The tyres you will really get cheaper elsewhere, but watch your alloys when the monkeys are fitting them...
hashluck
Give the dealer a try for tyre prices once you have got quotes from elsehwere. They can be quite competitive if they want to be.
Chav
fill your screenwash before you get it serviced, as the little bar stewards always top it up and charge several quid per bottle (its on the audi service checklist so they have to)
Milo
Thanks. I'm paranoid about the alloys - nearly 2 years old and as yet unmarked (watch this space). Parking 1 mile from Asda entrance, taking up 2 spaces has also kept the doors free from dinks but missus complains that the food has defrosted before we get back to the car!! farhan
I am always scared someone will dink my doors at car parks, end up going round and round trying to find the safest spot...drives the missus crazy!

[/ QUOTE ] Likewise here....but despite my very very best effort (similar tactics) I got a dreaded door dink on my A8 a few months ago. I might be being anal but it really bugged me and seemed to draw my eye every time I approached the car. The trouble with my wife's A4 is that the flanks seems even larger and more prone to damage - particualry as she always tries to cram into any space available leaving less than 12" to squeeze in and out of the car. Sometimes I want to

Sparky
How come the service is so expensive? My Bora's first service was just £140 and it's basically the same engine.

Chav
[ QUOTE ] How come the service is so expensive? [/ QUOTE ] the variable service includes a full oil change for starters... thats usually £70+VAT and its only every 16,000-18,000 miles, so its not too bad
Milo
I was beginning to think it was just me who drove round car parks all day looking for the space on the end of the row! My missus is banned from driving my car - she has to stick to her Ford Mundane. The doors look like the kids have attacked them with big sticks and all 4 alloys were kerbed within 6 months (none of this was her fault you understand). Blackcircles have offered 2 Dunlop SP9090 235/45 R17Y tyres for £119 each fully fitted - what are the chances of the dealer matching this?
UBM
Dealers might well match it if you say you've got a quote for that. It's worth a try...

jwo
Goodyear eagle f1s seem to be the tyre for the a4 avant, better than the original dunlops! About 122.5 from blackcircle or similar internet place. £334 for second service on mine from Aylesbury audi dealer
Milo
Rang dealer today for a quote to supply + fit brake light bulb when car is in for its service a week on Monday and asked them to confirm the service cost at the same time New bulb £19.86 fitted Service £285 "give or a take a couple of £s" They also confirmed they can still fit Dunlop Sport 9090s but offered me Dunlop Sport Max for another £21 per tyre. They said the labour cost went up on 1st January to £85 (+ vat?) per hour..OUCH! Might save a couple of quid filling up the washer bottle before though (thanks to CabrioJ)
UBM
You'd save yourself another 19.86 by doing the bulb yourself as well - it takes <5 mins..

[/ QUOTE ] I've been reading your post on changing the rear bulbs - I think I'll give it a go. Then I can spend the £19.86 on some flowers for the missus so I can can have a bit more and a bit less !!!

By the time I got home I was in no fit state. The beer muggers had hit me over the head leaving me with a huge headache, pinched my £10's and £20's replacing them with £1's and 50p's and left a taste like a dead rat in my mouth All in all a good night

IanHo
Wouldn't have thought so, but you could always say another Stealer fitted them for me. If it does, I can imagine the court case now: So Mr. X, you changed the bulbs on your Audi and you warranty is now void. Mr. Audi would you like to give Mr. X a big cheque for all his trouble and inconvenience - case closed, or something along those lines.
