Or do they just have 4 set positions & hope one suits?

Assuming you have no handbook, I think you position the seat, then while holding down the orange (or red?) memory button between the 4 driver positions on the control panel in the door, press the driver position to store.

Position the steering wheel, door mirrors and the seatbealt height adjuster at the same time. Let me know if you want me to scan and post the page from the hand book.

G'luck!

I know where you are going wrong. You must have the drivers door open for it to store them 169144-ok.gif

When we went to Germany Tobes49 kept trying and trying to get it to store his position, adjusting everything whilst driving but every time he went to store it it moved everything back to my settings, he was getting quite frustrated by the 5th attempt

Must be the open door bit I've been missing. Believe me I have tried every possible combination of pressing buttons, even to the point where I've had to have extra pairs of hands to press them all!

I was hoping to meet some of you last night at MK but it all got a bit late. I notice many of you give a location as London & as I am myself very close to Windsor I shall keep an eye on the meetings board & hope to meet up soon. Trouble is I have a big show end of Jan so it's possible I won't be able to make it along this time. Fingers crossed and many thanks for your help.

Mine's an 02 and I can allocate a seat/seatbelt/wheel/mirrors position by:

1. Having the door closed (and being on the move if necessary)

2. Making sure the big red button is in the down position

3. Holding the memory button and any of the 4 buttons simultaneously

If I want to allocate my spare key to an alternative position then that has to be done with a sequence of button presses with the door open.

Could it be that pre-facelift models require the door open for all cases?

YiamCross, are your courtesy lights working ok when you open the door?

This is exactly the same process as my '96! (as per my attachment ROLLEY~14.GIF)

confused.gif Ok I'm confused now...

My take on the earlier parts of this thread is;

The door may need to be open to allocate a number to a seat position (which on mine it doesn't)

and

The door must be open to allocate a key to seat position

(appears to be the same regardless of year)

Thats what i have been saying (I think?) I did post very early in the morn but I am sure that was what I said! Also I posted the details from the handbook, you saw that attachment? I assume that Botang is confusing the door opening with setting the keys?

Have we had Paul Dubya's input on this?

To sneakyMcC- Ally Pally, it's for bikes and thanks for the scan, I shall go down & play.

To Mutley- yep, the lights come on when the door opens.

I'm also shopping for tyres but there seems to be quite a choice, just wondered if anyone had any opinions or knows of somewhere with a sensible view on the pros & cons of different brands.

I usually go for Micheline as that's all Costco do (£198 fitted) but I can get Pzeros for £150 (or P6000 for 134) and dunlop 9000 for 154 (or 8000 for £137). None of which are shabby I would have thought. Anyone for Hankook for £117???

Mmm, we're not all being a bit thick here are we? blush.gif We haven't over looked the obvious I mean?

What, me? Probably. Seriously, though I have tried all combinations of doors open & closed, engine running & not, keys in & out, part turned, you name it.

On the button front I assumed from the start that the way the big red button appears to depress a little further down from the "on" position meant it would have to be held down with one of the numbered buttons and I think this is where the fault must lie. I would guess there's another switch which is activated when the big red button is held down and it must be this which is faulty. Believe me, I've tried holding it down hard and pressing a number button, trying to get the BRB & number button down absolutely simultaneously, trying to press them both hard down starting with the BRB both on and off, you name it. As soon as I touch a number button the seat moves into positions a large ape would find awkward. frown.gif

I shall endeavour to attend one of your get-togethers and award a prize to anyone who succeeds where I have failed. Afraid the award is more likely to liquid than precious metals or stones, though.
