Smørre
I am about to buy a 2002 S8, but am rather confused with regards to the transmission/gearbox choice. In a number of magazines I see separate performance figures (e.g. 5.4/6.3 0-100 km/h), but always thought that the S8 only came with the Tiptronic transmission. I would be grateful, if some of the experts on this forum could enlighten me on the following issues: 1) What are the true 0-100 km/h 7 0-62 miles/hour figures for a 2002 S8? 2) Why are two sets of acceleration figures often quoted? (does this e.g. depend on the "manual" vs. automatic shift of the transmission? The S6 fortunately comes with the manual choice. I find it strange to believe that the manual choice was never an option on the S8. However, I have so far not seen one single S8 for sale with a manual option. Help please!! cruiser647
I think the S8 came with a choice of manual or auto (but only on the continent. Us in the UK ONLY got auto. The auto would be the weapon of choice on most sales anyway. This is one of the reason why the last generation BMW M5 did not sell well - as opposed to the AMG E55/S8/S6/Jag XJR In real world driving the auto is quicker, as the manual car needs to be trashed by Michael Schumacher to get those 0-60 times etc. Stick to the auto!
