Gaunty
Has anyone else tried it? I've got a paid for copy of Spy Doctor, Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware running on my machine and it still found four threats to clean up, not bad first impression. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Rugbyfiend
yep, just run the first scan and it picked up a few bits not found with other similar programs. Ditto first impression, shall just see if/how it develops.
Waylander
they bought out giant antispyware and it is that engine rebadged as MS antispyware. i understand that giant suite was supposed to be quite good. havent tried it myself yet as i have spybot and adaware like you say but i'm a parnoid bugger so will give it a whirl! Gaunty
I know what you mean, I've just got paranoid after cleaning my sons computer, it had three trojans loads of addware, redirectors and hyjackers, one I think was recording stuff and sending it somewhere on the internet!!! Also keep away from P2P programs, I think I've downloaded stuff that has been infected. I've since blocked loads of ports on my router to try to limit what gets out. scooby_simon
Top stuff, Spotted one spyware that had not been picked up by others. Thanks Gaunty
xspencex
Yeh cheers, Spotted 3 that hadn't been picked up before...
Durrsaku
It is very good but you need to use it combined with another programe. I use adaware too to cross examine and it always turns up with results missed by the other one.
Sparky
I've found Spybot and Adaware to be a bit too tolerant of programs. MS Antispyware has found 14 threats now that the others didn't and they appear to have been removed now. Top stuff MS! (never thought I'd say that)
Durrsaku
i did find it very invasive though and in the end it messed up my windows installer programme.
R32North
It found nothing and even tho my XP is 100% legit and registered with MS, it said it wasn't genuine! Nasty MS, stuff is getting removed!
NewNiceMrMe
Working great on both my PC and laptop. Top notch too.
Smiddy
It is good for finding them little spyware programs i only had one on my machine, I been using it for a few weeks now, but you need to keep an eye on it, it can make your machine run like a dog if you have been installing things but other then that all seems to be ok. Gaunty
Guess it was only a matter of time http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/02/09/banking_trojan/
Colin M
The Trojan targets users of UK online banks such as Barclays ... records passwords and keystrokes once users of infected machines Which is why Barclays use a mouse action (pull down menu selection) to enter your password rather than entering it in a field. Also why you should never click on those phishing email links even for a look-see, you never know what script is going to run on the page you visit. Mac
You know it still amazes me that people 'use' their computer while logged in as an administrative level user...I.e. the default settings on Windows XP. I have a normal user account on mine that means access is restricted to most parts of the machine - if you do this a lot of the exposure to this sort of scripting is removed. I suppose it comes down to usability against protection hey.
Mollox
That’s a very good point Mac and one I hadn’t thought about. It doesn’t help that XP by default sets the first account as admin. Then you also get into issues with running an underprivileged account – e.g. Norton regularly blocks (then allows) bbc news on Liz’s account. Also, her account runs like a dog while mine flies. I also found something called ‘hijackthis’ (freeware) whilst fixing my parents’ riddled pc which I found very good for picking out and killing registry changes. Waylander
i have always had good intentions to surf from a limited account too but find the lack of functionality while doing other stuff at the same time too annoying - probably a perceived rather than real problem with me being a control freak. maybe i should just install linux and surf from there! Gaunty
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en Apparently it has some improvement although they don't seem to specify exactly what they are. It does extend the deadline to December though, so I suppose its worth the download.
NeilB
Just done a scan with Adaware and SpyBot and showed nothing. Yet the MS one has shown half a dozen so far. I'm in shock, something good from Microsoft!
CarMad
Can't be... either that or it has just found problems with its own software.
Gaunty
Don't trust Spybot and Adaware, they are last year's news. I use MS AntiSpyware and PCTool's Spyware Doctor, the latter is very good although you have to pay for it, well worth the dosh in my opinion.
