There is one for sale at a garage near me!! they want £20k for it though shocked.gif

I remember when they were first out, the local Vauxhall dealer were so scared that the ones they had were going to be stolen, they brought them in and put them up on the ramps at night!!!

oooohhhh aaaaahhhhh

now if I was not saving for a new boat I might be tempted...

Good job you are saving for the boat with the reliability problems that LC's have!! My friend used to work for a rolling road-they had two of those in.One blew up on the rollers and the other one? Well in all fairness it did make 2 miles down the bypass before giving up!!!(seem to remember the repair bill being 10k or something stupid).

And what is that interior all about? Once a Carlton always a Carlton!(IMHO)

And all these bad vibes from someone that 10 years ago would have loved to have one.Don't see the appeal anymore-especially for 20k! Let's face it,you can get performance cars from proper manufacturers for that money! 169144-ok.gif

agreed that £20k could be better spent but IMO the Lotus Carlton is a legend of its time! if i had 20k to spare I would buy one! but it wouldnt be top of the list!

Could you really live with that interior though?

I know the interior isn't everything with a car but I can't help feeling that a 170mph super-saloon should make you feel special when you get in it,that surely wouldn't! Also,I'd be very surprised if it could still serve up the performance as it did when new.

That or a 400bhp M5 for 20k? Surely the BM!

Shame isn't it as the Audi S2 RS2 interior still looks great today. Sure, 1993 and 1994 respectively, but still older classics and the dawn of understated performance. Carbon fillets, chunky sports wheel, extra dials added in at the foot of the dash facia, lovely seats. You just have to sit in one to know it has that little bit extra.

I think I would rather have the LC than the BM M5 (Rather have an S8 first though). It is completey different - no bugger knows what it is. Look in the mirror think bah, just a bad boyed Carlton - soon sort him out..........oooops, its a .......what......Lotus Car........bu55er, he's gone. A tad twitchy though.......+++

Of course, 20K buys you an S8/M5/E55????/AMG'd this or that or Carlsson'd this or that. Plenty on offer though. You really are spoilt for choice in that market........

Ian C,spot on about the Audi interior and really what I was getting at.The Audi interior, nice place to be and a bit unique-the Carlton inside? May aswell be a 2 litre Diplomat as a mega-bucks special!

And I hate cars you can't rely on.The LC's really aren't dependable at all-Agreed,looks much more aggressive and outrageous than the discrete M5 but wouldn't be as nice to own and maintain!

Remember selling my CRX V-Tec about 8 years ago having bought a 260bhp Maestro Turbo(Don't laugh).I took the guy out in the Maestro to show him how damn fast it was(and it really was)and all he could say was how much more special it was being in the Honda.Never understood at the time, certainly do now!
