hotdog
Booking a weekend in Scotland in July. Any recommendations for a nice hotel that could give a good location that we could use for a base? we are flying to edinburgh on the Friday and return darn sarf on the Sunday night. I've got a few shortlisted, but I'd like your input. Three of Four star for a couple of nights.
richy_uk
I'd highly reccomend The Scotsman hotel by North Bridge. Top place. Put your shoes in the rooms service hatch and they are polished over night.
NewNiceMrMe
We go almost every year and stay in one of two, both of which are superb. They're both 5* but you can negotiate on price - push them as much as you can. The Scotsman (Hotel of the Year 2003) The Caledonian Hilton The Scotsman is at the bottom of the Royal Mile/Princes Street (just on the bridge actually). The Caley is at the top of Princes Street. Service in both is superb, but we have a personal preference for the Caley because it has larger rooms. Others I can recommend (have stayed in) are The Bonham, The Howard and The Balmoral (Princes Street). All are good bases for whatever you want to do and see. R32North
Tons to choose from, but depends on BUdget. Unfortunately being from this neck of the woods I haven't had much call to use the Hotels in Edinburgh so can't really recommend. Just book in advance as it can get busy in the summer. Glad you picked Juky and not August, cos you'll have little chamve of getting a room in August - Festival time !!!

TP27
For the personal touch, Channings Hotel at 15 South Learmonth Gardens (0131 315 2226) is a more traditional base. Just by the west end and a number of my clients have stayed there in the past.
NewNiceMrMe
Yes - it is owned by the Town House Company who also own the Bonham and Howard that I mentioned above. Good recommendation!
