Local paper or Autotrader?

Need to shift D's old Ford Fiasco following a small purchase I made yesterday afternoon... sekret.gif

It has (as you can see) been through the wars, but its a surprisingly solid and reliable heap.

Its J reg, 1.1 auto (CVT!).

2 months tax and MOT till November 2005.

Whats it worth (not a lot I know!), and should I bung it in the Autotrader or just stick it in the local paper?

Depending on how much it owes, and how much time you want to give selling it, I would; e-bay, local paper and note in window personally.

Although if you want to step it up a notch autotrader and exchange n mart. E-bay can be good if your prepared for some cr@p along the way.

Well... D's Fiesta was getting somewhat long in the tooth (was bought as a stopgap a year ago when her previous car bit the dust).

We wanted something 5 door, cheap for her to insure and run but big enough for four/five people on occasions, under 1,500cc (I think it is) to get the cheaper road tax but that would do the occasional long trip.

I'd been thinking Astra 1.4 or Escort 1.4 just because I knew insurance, parts, etc would be cheap and they'd be easy to fix.

Have a friend in the motor trade looking out for something along those lines as a part exchange trade in that he wouldn't want to retail, just sell on out.

He phoned me yesterday to say he had this Rover. It was a car he'd originally taken in p/x when it was 3 years old and sold on, and the guy he sold it to had come back and traded it in against a newer car, so he pretty much knew all the history of the car which is nice.

So we went and took a look and 1/2 hour later were the proud owners!

Its a Rover 214SEi, L reg, with 81,000 miles on the clock.

It seems a very straight car, and the inside looked pretty much unmarked apart from the fact that he was obviously a smoker, but nothing a good bit of ventilation and an air freshener can't deal with. The outside has a couple of small areas of rust bubbling up under the paint, but nothing major at all.

It has a new radio/cassette, central locking, power steering, rear wash wipe etc, and as I mentioned has 81,000 miles on it.

It drove nicely apart from the high biting point on the clutch and a slightly "throaty" exhaust sound, but I feel one can't be too picky at this age/milage/price. The engine felt smooth and willing and the car felt reasonably "tight", and everything seemed to work on it.

So its all paid for, just need to sell the present old Fiesta so we can transfer the insurance and we'll go get it!

D very excited (bless) and oddly, so am I! grin.gif

Just feels a nice little car. smile.gif
