IanHo
Whilst preparing for a family day out last weekend, I noticed a major design flaw with the A4 Avant. This problem will affect most people who have a young family, apologies if something along these lines has been posted before. Part of the survival kit as any one with kids will know is a foldable Maclaran style buggy, which will only fit diagonally and at an angle in the Avant boot. Not too much of a problem day to day, but a nightmare if you are attempting to pack the car to go on holiday etc. About 18 months ago, I took the family 2 Adults + 3 Kids to the South of France. I managed to get all the kit + the buggy in to the back of my previous car (Alfa 156 Sportswagon) which is less of an estate even than the Audi. What's more the buggy went in flat with no problems. Sorry to labour the point, but IMHO it's a bit poor of Audi who must have spent billions on the development of the A4 to miss such a detail. They boast about the square, flat loading space of the Avant with 1m between the wheel arches, but unless you carry a lot of 1m pallets about all but useless. So if you are attempting to go on Holiday this year in your Avant (don't know about the Saloon) you have three choices: 1) Leave the Buggy at Home. 2) Leave the Kids at Home (tempting). 3) Buy a new buggy (I'm sure Audi must do one that fits). UBM
I know where you're coming from. The boot on the saloon is big but the boot lid not big enough to get big items in. Inside the boot you can get a golf umbrella from front to rear. I think the saloon is 2cm longer than the avant.
gando
Afflicted by the exact same problem with my MacLaren - its a real pain. Even worse when you get a double one - almost need to leave the kids behind to fit it in. I spend half my time apologising to my wife for not getting an A6 - didn't want one of those as the extra foot or so would be even more difficult to park in the cramped streets where I live... IanHo
Beginning to think it was just me! Or no one else on here has kids of course?! Lucky my kids have just outgrown the buggy stage, except my daughter insists on taking it everywhere to push her dolls around in . Still a big oversight by Audi. scooby_simon
First thing you do is buy a roof box, we did. You then sell the A4 when you have a second kid and buy a V70 as you need the extra room.
IanHo
Surely it's cruel to put the kids in a roof box , and even more cruel to put them in a Vulva .

Scotty
I'm gonna pretend I didn't read this thread. One of the reasons I got rid of the TT and got the S4 was because it was a sensible family car!

I swapped my old car for an S4 avant as soon as I found out we were expecting because it was a nice, sensible, family car with lots of room for baby sh1te.
