jackr32
Hello all, I was wondering has anybody fitted this after after they bought their car? If yes then how difficult is it? Or will I have to get the stealer to fit it? Also I know from Dieselmeister that it was a £130 quid option but does anyone know the likely cost of it now? I have been trying to ring my local stealer but they just dont answer the bloody phone! It was ringing for a good 3-5 minutes at least 3 times! Cheers JP
UBM
They're probably closed for a "training" session - i.e. driving everyones cars (like yours) to go and get the bacon butties. Maybe when they've been "trained" they might answer...
jackr32
They need some bloody basic training! How to pick up the phone woudl be a good start! You have got to love Audi Stealers! Tried ringing my local one (Whites Camberley) again no answer so I ring up Ridgeway in Reading someone eventually answered the phone. I got through the parts and gave him the details and hey presto he couldnt just look it up their and then he will ring me back I suppose it will be a massive increase on the £130 quid? UBM
You guessed - I'd call back again - "I'll ring you back" never happens. Have you called vag parts?
jackr32
Un-f***ing-believeable! Excuse the swearing but the guy from Audi did call back and wait for it............... the cost of the parts for the window surrounds is £359.06 pence. He then wanted to quote me for labour!! Somewhere between £70 & £80 quid an hour no doubt! How can £130 pound option turn into £359.06???? 'S Thieving Robbing B*****d's
SPLiiX
Try VAG Parts! Surely they would be cheaper than the stealer! Also - At least you know it can be done. The match the mirrors!
UBM
I'm sure if you call vag parts and speak to the guys there (remember 10% discount for TSN members) then they could probably provide you with fixing instructions..

Avus_Bub
[ QUOTE ] How can £130 pound option turn into £359.06???? 'S [/ QUOTE ] EASY- 1. They have to part number up and package each strip. 2. They then have to put them on a lorry/ferry/lorry/van to get to your "stealer" 3. Audi UK take their cut 4. Your dealer soz "stealer" takes his cut. 5. Then you have to pay a (can't spell technician) chimp to drill some holes in your car and hammer on your new bling Best £130 option on the car I reckon. I see cars without the strips and I think they just don't look right. Even if they gave you a choice of black strips like the Avant roof bars. That would be better
Chav
would that stuff that DM used for his grill work on the window surrounds? just wondering as it could save you a few quid. maybe a couple of chrome grill kits would contain enough pieces to do a custom job of the window surrounds (personally i think plain black looks better on a black s-line tho!) UBM
Good idea Mr. J. The stuff I bought for the grill is too narrow. The Alu strips flare round the bottom of the windows. You should be able to fit it yourself.
jackr32
Thanks guys, I will drop vagparts a line when I get a chance. I think the ally mirrors will look out of place unless it has the ally surrounds aswell. Might just be personal preference.
UBM
I had a look at my aluminium strips this morning. It looks like they probably hook over the trim and push home. I guess it probably would be relatively easy to do - but it's a £130 risk...

jackr32
Right, I had a response from VAGparts.com. It is possible to do this but It is very expensive as I would need to replace all the glass aswell. 's Audi need to sort that one out! I will dig out the original e-mail and post it on here later. jackr32
HI John, Thank you for your mail! We've been asked this a few times before, so know the answer to this. Firstly the easy bit. The four door mouldings with the trim, they would be £110 for all four. The problem comes from any trim on the side or rear of the car. To fit those trims you MUST replace ALL of the glass that the trims fit onto!! its here that this conversion stops for most people! The glass in these areas needs to be cut out and new glass glued in place, then the trims can be fitted, so you talking about pretty big specialist labour charges and the cost of glass and trims. That's big money. If you'd like me to quote the parts and glass, then please tell me if you have a saloon or estate please.
