After replacing the throttle body via AA instruction, the car idled at 3000 revs and would not drop! Today i took it to a electrical garage and the diag tool read- throttle ecu fault??? They could not reset basic settings and I do not know what to do. I've got it booked in to another place tommorrow and then audi dealer if they can't fix. Its starting to get costly and I would rather know whats wrong before I pay more people to have a guess?!! Can any one help, please. Thanks.

Stop going to garages who don't have the correct gear. The tool to do the job is either the main dealers diagnostic computer, or someone knowledgeable with computer and a program called "Vag-com". If the garage doesn't have either of these systems, they will take your money and tell you the same thing, and you already know this. Ask the garage first if they have access to either of these to do the adaption (as Tobes already told you) and if the answer's no, then they can't help you any further.

You're on your own then sunbeam, as far as I'm concerned.

Hope you find some way of sorting it. I couldn't really care much about whether you like my suggestions, but it doesn't make my point any less valid.

Edit: And just for the record here, How feckin technical does the information have to be before you'll understand it! Ask the guy if he can do what you want before you give him the car and your money.

There are many different types of code reading machine which will read the OBD codes and do basic things, but for more technical and specific work, see my answer above. 'Nuff said.

I have to say that your reply was a bit harsh there, Rusty has taken time to answer your request for help, if i am honest it would have been my answer too, why beat around the bush when if you go straight to the dealer, they will be able to pinpoint the problem! One thing I have found on TSN, is that if you are fair and helpful to others, they will return the favour!!

Its just like any situation, would you really expect help if you go around having a go at people!

Remember there are other conditions when carrying out adaption, Like battery voltage above 11.5v (engine must not be ruunning when doing adption) And coolant between 5-100c(or something like that) It the coolant sensor faulty this could be a problem. Ask them what scan tool there using cause most cant do the (TBA). There loads more things it could be but they should check all these when doing it.

Good luck, I'm not going to be online for at least a month now!

Congratulations Rob, I was about to try and help you out but dont think I'll bother, so far you have made 7 post all relating to the problem you have.

What exactly have you contributed to the forum? Yet you expect members to come running and spend time looking into the issue you have with your car and to help you out.

Then you have the cheek to put up a sarcastic post like that.
