Just come off the phone with a VW slaesman. Been trying to strike a deal between us which inludes a reasonable part ex price for my scooby.

looking good at the mo just gotta give him a ring in the morning and reserve the car, will pop up and view the car this week also hes got to see mine.

as long as we are both happy the VW sales guy said the deal has to be done and exchange cars by next monday as the part ex figure for my car is based on januarys prices.

so i could be a R32 owner by next monday jump.gif

Spec is as follows:

Silver

full black leather

53 plate

15k on the clock

Cheers

What sort of cost, was it £22k plus a complementary (highish amount) trade in for the Scooby?

Private buy wise on the above spec £19-£20k. Dealer £20-22k.

Tyres will be fecked, so add in £500. Make sure you get the R32 matts and goodies (umbrella, pen, key ring).

Keys x 2 + 1 emergency. Keys cost £165 program inc, so make sure you get all sets!

Check seats and make sure the bum isn't all soggy and creased. Since its dealer sourced, see if an extra year VW warranty can be thrown in. Ask if alloys have been refurbished (if so, make sure that this is noted and a warranty applied to the refurb).

Always remember that the prime objective of the salesman is your money, not you, not the product being sold. Although it might be difficult, curb your excitement, draw a long chin, walk out for 5 minutes, then go back and get a great bargain and a quality set of wheels.

Beyond that have fun and do post questions if you need

Whoops, bum steer........... Warning !!! sportifs2.gif

Have found the plastic thing that came with the keys, its not an emergency key. Its a cable tie ended piece of black plastic with a black sticker detailing D0+ 5 digits, other side has 2 sets of stickered coded numbers.

Funny thing is it was in a little plastic wallet, so I hadn't prev checked it out.

Deffo not a key, but must be something to do with the key and prog code detail on the key for the transducer or trans- whatever it is, that stops the car starting, if a un-programed key is used.

Knowing VW if you do lose a key and haven't got this, they will simply charge you extra for checking it up on a database.

Has anyone had to get another key and had to provide this key tag?

Back on the orginal post, this is in Autotrader, advert is Dartford (Kent) area->

2003 VOLKSWAGEN Golf R32 3.2 V6,

53 reg. 4wd, 240 BHP, only 3000 miles, UK car, 1 owner from new, 5 door, full leather, cruise control, heated seats, climate control, rain sensor wipers, a stunning car in mint condition. £21,500 . ovno.

Mileage is sweet and by ovno, I reckon £20,750.

In auto trader there's R32's starting from £19k, though any with sub 10k miles seem to be advertised at £21k ish, Dealer sales being at least a £1k premium over private sales.

You are correct . That is what the plastic tag was for or at least that is what I was told by the dealer when I picked up the R32. They told me that they no longer issued the "plastic" emergency keys.

Correct. Apparently there were numerous problems with them, not least the pressure required to turn them in the ignition resulted in the key head twisting off, and the key blade remaining stuck in the ignition.

However, if you want a 3rd key to stash somewhere for emergencies, rather than buying a whole remote wireless fob key (over $400) here, you can buy a standard MkIV Golf key (looks like a normal key with a small light in it to light the keyhole), get it laser cut with the correct coded cutout pattern.

Then take it and your other two remote keys to the stealer, or someone who has a VAG-Com (AMD in UK?) and get them to recode all three keys. This is because the ECU renegotiates with all of the keys and gives them new code values.

You cannot do a single key in isolation, as that then renders the other keys useless, as the car will no longer acknowledge the previous codes.

I did it just after I got my R, and the "normal" key cost about $200 as it was lasercut in Singapore for my car. The stealer did all 3 keys for me gratis, in about 4 minutes.

So now I have the 2 keys, and my hot spare.

To use the spare - you need to open the door and have the key in the ignition (and that turned to on) in under 30 seconds, or the R's alarm goes off. This is because VW do not fit a key reader into the driver's door lock, so all key/ECU handshakes are done via the ignition...

It is 5 door, black, leather interior, registered april 04,had very low milage cant remember exact amount,I had been looking for this exact spec for ages which is why I think I was charged so much for it,just fancied a change a mate has a cupra r,but thought I would miss the golf so tried for a new gti changed my mind now though im gonna stick with my R,in a way the dealer made my decision to keep it for me by offering such a wa*k trade in (hope his next poo is a porqupine)

No it isn't.

Please don't start comparing 4 cyl turbos with 6 cyl smooth, lag free, easy torque motors.

The GTi looks like a half finished project toy. Interior is weak, back end dung.gif.

All its got going for it is that it becomes a class leader in a class that is below the R32!

The R32 is, so far the definative Golf, as a base 'bread and butter' car.

The GTi might have some claim to the media crown, but unless you want to feck the warranty and tweak turbos / ECU- no chance at all!

Mind you 30 mpg would be nice.

Mind you again, the wheels are absolute dung.gif!
