Boxster instead of Audi, no argument.

hmm. i disagree. the S4 sounds better with its gorgeous V8, it caters for 4 people in style and is 100% practical as a daily car, 24 hours of the day and 365 days of the year 169144-ok.gif

(unless you do high mileage in which case its gonna be another 10K a year in petrol smashfreakB.gif)

The Audi Cabrio is one of my favourite cars (as one of two of you may have spotted! grin.gif), and the S4 is the ultimate incarnation of it. It is a fabulous piece of kit, but if it were my money (and I didn't need the space) I'd have the Boxster for sure.

Newer car, a Porsche, better drive, better residuals.

I'm not knocking the S4, but I think its more of a high performance GT car, great for those trips to the South of France, and more comfortable and practicle in daily use, but the Porsche is the proper sports car. 169144-ok.gif

Of course it is, but an M3 is by far a better drivers car than an S4, plain and simple.

I drove both and there was no comparison. One was a soft GT type cruiser, as is said above, the other was a more raw performance car that excited all the way - i.e. the M3.

You don't see a lot of M3's because they are easier to get hold of than an S4 - you see a lot more because they are generally accepted to be by far the better drivers car.

But its pants.

Get an M3 if you want a powerful saloon/coupe, not a girlie S4.

and thats just a plain silly comment NONO3.GIF

Not really, the Boxster is a much better buy unless you need the space, let's be honest, this has always been a, Audi based forum so I suppose that will come through. The Boxster has THE best residuals of ANY new car on sale, if I was spending my hard earned on a new car (something I'd never, ever do) I would want something that would not hurt me too bad in a couple of years.

The fact that it will drive the pants of most anything else too is an extra bonus 169144-ok.gif

Indeed.

Depends what you want from the car. M3 is no doubt the more involving drive, but the S4 is a more capable more relaxed very high performance GT with more descreet and modern styling, and the availability of Tiptronic auto.

Impossible to say one is "better" than the other, they fulfill subtly different briefs.

Interstingly, Top Gear crew (Clarkson etc) when comparing the S4 saloon with the M3 Coupe concluded that the M3 was the ultimate drivers choice, but they all plumped for the S4 in preference as the more rounded car.

Thank you - incidentally, I think Audi_Smitten should get the Boxster for both the reasons shown and because it is what he started out craving for.

If you go from a 2 seater to a 4 seater you are going to lose something anyway unless you are in the market for a 911. Stick with the Boxster (but get the 3.2S!).

well calling an S4 a soft cruiser is another silly comment. but i know you havent driven either aggressively...as you've said that in previous posts.

i'm not getting into an argument though, the 2 cars appeal to 2 different types of driver.

but i'm not the one with an M3 looking for another car to use in the winter beerchug.gif

...by comparison, it is. It's not silly, it is true.

Ahem, the reasons being why risk some arse dinking it in an area where we get worse weather than most other parts of England?

You're right about the cars appealing to different people though.

Boxster - Audi S4 - M3 Convertible; would anyone really have them all on a shopping list or would they really know their choice before they went looking? I suspect the latter.

I drove the S4 briefly and not aggressively, you're right - because it didn't seem to want to be driven aggressively - you'll know what I mean by that I think.
