Chav
i do. and couldnt live without it. its a handy place to put stuff, it finishes the interior off nice, its comfy when stuck in traffic, it can be raised out of the way if you want to sportily drive etc, and it stops a draught when its raised and the roof is down ps...and i put my shades in it because they dont fit in the shades holder. SPLiiX
I have one and its great for long journeys! Also good to have two drinks in there too (again on long journeys) with passengers. (mine has two drinks holder sin it - think it was to do with the storage pack) Like the leather on it too - adds a touch of class to the interior. I know some of you guys find it gets in the way of the handbrake but maybe it's my seat position that makes it not affect me too much. I sit fairy upright (as you should) and the bottom part of the seat is at it's furthest back. And the height adjustment is fairly high. I am not one of those people who pear over the steering wheel! Maybe it's because we do not have much traffic up here compared to you guys down south but I hardly ise the handbrake. From my house to town there is only two sets of traffic lights and it's about 5 miles away! No we do not have single track roads but almost! (just sheep up here) So arm rest for me please! And anyway you can flip it up............
Chav
are we going to have a retractable roof thread too? and the inevitable quattro thread? and of course the highly dubious interior light pack thread?
Chav
i didnt think about the handbrake issue. i only use it when i park, and when i had a manual i only used the handbrake when parking. some people use it at traffic lights....how tedious would that be

Phantom
Wouldn't be without mine either, especially combined with Multitronic, also provides some useful additional storage space. Have to say full marks to Audi for putting a light in there too Has anyone installed their iPOD in there rather than wrecking the look of the dash by mounting an iPod bracket ? SPLiiX
A light in the arm rest - you must be having a laugh! I did not know - I will be looking! CHEEE
Phantom
Yeah its a very dim orange light at the back of the arm rest , it is a bit dim so may seek advice from DM on upgrading the bulb for something else I am sure it was discussed on the interior light pack thread a few months back.... J_C
Well, I don't have an armrest in my A4 right now but I'm planning on installing one. Like SPLiiX, my driving position means that it wouldn't really get in the way when applying the handbrake. My last car (a 1999 Passat Sport) had an armrest (as well as full DIS and rear electric windows, but let's not go there ) and it was great apart from the occasional creak when I leaned hard on it. I'd sometimes fold it up when driving 'enthusiastically', but this often felt weird and I'd end up putting it back down again. When I got this A4 I knew I'd have to learn to live without the armrest, at least for a while, and I suppose I have to some degree - I no longer search in vain for it with my elbow. My girlfriend misses it though; we used to 'fight' for elbow room in the Passat and the wider, thicker Audi version would probably allow us both to 'enjoy' it at the same time (fnarr fnarr ). I agree that an armrest is also useful for storing odd bits like pens, coins, sweets etc. Anyone here retro-fitted one into an A4?

I dod think about it but I use my handbrake a lot in the manual and I think it might encourage me to slouch too much!
Milo
Definetely agree - the armrest is a must and makes motorway and town driving more comfortable. I have mine set at the 25 degree angle which means I can leave it down all the time and just about reach the handbrake. Once you get the knack of reaching around/under the armrest to find the handbrake it's no bother although I am getting RSI in my wrist

IanHo
Couldn’t do without mine for storing things and errrm resting my arm on! Have no problem with the handbrake either, and mine just stops where the armrest starts perrrrfek.
Phantom
So DM any chance you might be retrofitting one in your A4 ?, especially after all the positive feedback ?
UBM
I wouldn't rule it out... I could do with some pucker instructions though as you need to actually cut into the plastic

IanHo
Should be a doddle to fit, had mine out a couple of times now (the armrest that is ), 1 Bolt holds the armrest in, but you'll probably have to remove the centre console to get at the cut-out, unless you are Heman enough to push it out without removing it. The light just plugs in by the rear ashtray. I posted the removal instructions for the centre console last week for anyone who needs them. About a 20-30 minute job to remove the centre console. marke
Thought I'd seen it somewhere a while ago. I think it is a doddle to fit, but here's what can happen if you let a Stealer fit it for you: Armrest Disaster My own personal opinion before I got the A4 was that they're a waste of space. Now, I feel like I'm sitting in a leather armchair when I'm in the car, and wouldn't be without one again.
