harj
right so my S3 hit the 50k mark this month (and it hurts...) What i want to know is should i be putting some extra dosh away for any expensive faults that may occur in my forthcoming S3 miles ??? Need to know about approx cost of next service in 5k, when to change break discs?? any thing else i should be aware of? Any ideas much appreciated
Tomk
i think my discs and pads were about 250 fitted for front and back,
Paul
BRAKE discs. I would be budgeting for cambelt and ancillaries soon. Personally i would Disregard any advice from Audi regarding life of cam belt. TT's have been failing early and you know that the S3 is the same engine. I would be looking to do it preferably before 60K miles. Just to be on the safe side, as it could cost you £5k for a new engine and fitting. (worse case, based on a recent TT) 20 valves into 4 pistons will make one hell of a mess.

gambba
Cambelt and water pump (Do the water pump at the same time as it's only 35 quid) costs just under the 280 quid mark from an independent garage, so look at about 350-400 for a dealer...who would not mntion changing the water pump at the same time and would just look forward to when it fails so they can charge another 400 quid!! Paul
TT cambelt failure. (TT forum) TT cambelt failure (TSN TT forum) (TT is same engine as S3 remember) I would read these and make your own decesions. personaly If i still have S3, for the sake of a couple of hundred quid, i would be changing at 55K miles ish just to be on the safe side. i wouldnt want to have to find the cash for a new engine.
