Munki
So what are the widest wheels that will go on a passat? I am really tempted by these http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/325677/an/0/page/0/gonew/1#UNREAD but the standard tyres are 195mm wide and these are 255mm would they go without scraping the sides? R32North
The tyres might fit but I think you'd be better off with the usual 225/40-18 tyres that are the right size for VAG cars, eg Golf, A3, Passat, etc. I don't know for sure but I think the alloys will be 8"x18" - can anyone confirm. What PCD and offset you got Munki?
Munki
I have whatever is standard. Thanks. All I know is that according to Rochford Tyres website it says 112x5 and 35-45. Looking on google a bit I found soemone say that he has 225 on the front and they run very rarely. However he had lowered it by an inch and a half. I think though that 10.8 inches instead of 8.5 might cause some grief. Anyone with a bit of thoughts / experience in this is still welcome to contribute though. R32North
From VW you can buy aftermarket alloys, they are usually 7.5"x18" or 8"x18" and VW will fit 225/40-18" tyres as standard. You can put on 235/35-18 in order to keep the rolling radius as near as correct but it may rub if you lower the car. Offset would be 35-45mm, knowing the offest of these, I'm guessing at 38mm, would help to determine if there is potential for any issues. What size tyres you got just now, Munki? jojo
I have run 19 x 8.5 wheels, ET35 offset and lowered suspension on my Passat with 235/35s up front and 265/30s on the rear with no catching at all!, even when it's fully loaded up and the rear wheel sits right up in the arches - hope this helps. Munki
Mmmmmm nice wheels..... At the mo I have the standard 15" but I have always liked the RS4 and RS6 wheels. My only worry is putting a 255 on the front. That is what I suspect will rub.
jojo
Well, that was 2 years ago, I'm currently running 18" RS6 wheels with the same suspension, as the replacement tyres I needed for the 19s was murder on my wallet, I have 19s on my S3 aswell The Passat seems to ride pretty well with the low profile tyres, probably because I'm running standard shocks, and it has handling to match my S3 in the dry. 255 tyres on the fronts is a big no no, 235s are mm's from catching the front arch on full lock. Here's a pic of my car with more rubber
R32North
Munki, you can get new RS4 Reps, 8"x18", with new 225/40-18 tyres for about £650 from quite a few places so you don't have to stress over those with the extra large tyres - check out some of the deals going about and I'm sure you'll get some that fit just fine

Munki
I thought that might be the case. I have looked at rochford tyres several times at the replicas but the thought of originals somehow seemed more tempting. I'll probably wait a wee while longer and get some RS6 replicas, I've always like them and I suspect they would be a tad easier to clean than the 4s. Thanks for the opinions.
