Ben
Morning chaps. Excuse me for nipping into unchartered territory Need second car for summer baby arrival and so far the GTi is top of my wish list. I can't find a brochure to download so I can flick through firstly, and as a consequence, I was wondering if someone could tell me the airbag situation in the GTi. Does it have passenger/side bags, and is the passenger one switchable? Cheers for your help chaps, Ben
Ritey
Yes it has passenger air bag on all models of the 6n2 polo, not sure about the switch though, never had a need to find one !

Ben
So no airbag switch by the looks of it - Mmmm. Wonder whether you can retrofit one? Also - is the boot noticably smaller on the 5dr? Cheers Ben

Si_GTi
Hi guys, According to my Polo's ever-useful handbook, you can turn off the passenger-side airbag, for the purpose of using a child seat in the front passenger seat. Whilst it states that "we recommend that you only use a child seat on the back seats of the car", you can go to your dealer and ask them to deactivate the passenger front airbag. All it says is "ask your Volkswagen dealer about the conversion", and reminds you to reactivate it once you've stopped using a child seat. In typical Volkswagen tradition, it mentions nowhere how to deactivate your airbag yourself, so probably best to go find out at your local VW dealer eh? HTH! Ben
So you must go and visit the dealer for them to take the bag out I expect. They then can't keep it so have to dispose of it and you will have to buy a new one when you need it again. Ta for the info chap
