Nope the hammer..was different.. Mercedes did the 500 E and got Porsche to assemble and fine tune it...AMG did the 'Hammer' during the late 80's I believe.. AMG also to special order re-tuned the 500E in the early 90's... And so that was the 'E60'.. I've seen a few in the Middle east...sat in one...didn't want to get out... It was for sale..at £27,000... frown.gif Real Value over here would be twice that I'm sure... Not a lot were made...

AMG had the Hammer first....Mercedes brought the 500E out in 1990.. To show they could do it too I guess... Then in 1994 (I think) when Mercedes and AMG were working closer together they tuned the 500 E...enlarged the 5.0 ltr V8 to 6.0 ltr and called it the E60.., not to sure but the 500E turned to E500..then E500 ltd..then possibly E50..when the new model E-Class came out it became the E55.. The car in the Pics is a Brabus though.... I know nothing about it..except I want one...BAD...

Just googled this:

"

Brabus is also known for their Mercedes-Benz tuning activities. They offered a 6.0 litre or a 6.5 litre engine job, for the W124 V8 models.

displ. 5956 cc - 363 CI (+983 cc)

408 hp - 300 kW (+82 hp) @ 5600 rpm

604 Nm (+124 Nm) @ 3800 rpm

0 - 100 km 5.3 sec

282 kmh"

So thats 176 mph. Not bad for back then!

Yeh thats it ... the 6.0ltr in the Pic...not bad eh..

It's very confusing, the relationship between AMG and Mercdes at the time was all over the place.. who did what etc..and specs...I think several different 5.0ltr engine styles were used too...

Loving the Brabus though...

Cheers for the Tech stuff Mollox 169144-ok.gif

I often like to think of myself as a true petrol head 169144-ok.gif yet i have read this post and the threads and find myself lost in the onslaught of information being thrown around that means virtually nothing to me smashfreakB.gif

Is this a Mercedes fetish thing or is that car worth all the excitement. To be honest, i looked at the pictures and to be really really brutally honest, it looks seriously average and would have the handling of a Lada Riva. I also think it looks like the sort of car you see a bunch of youths driving around in thinking there gangsters or someone of the ethnic minority community driving at 25mph not being able to see over the bonnet! smashfreakB.gif

So, i know this car MUST!? be fast and with the pedegre of the people who have tuned the car it must stick to the road like poo, but please tell, what is the big deal??

Yours humbley

I can't imagine anything that Brabus have touched handling like a Lada, regardless of it's size.

And isn't 5 secs to 60 and 176mph enough for most petrolheads? Most modern cars are restricted to 155 so that puts them out of the picture. And to find the cars that will do that speed you have to look to porsche,TVR etc. and they are pure sports cars through and through, not 4 door saloons!

So apart from there only being maybe 1 or 2(that's a guess)of these Mercs in Britain,it certainly deserved a mention, and I for one am glad it was shown. 169144-ok.gif

Consider the car in its true context: 1990. People were RAVING about the Lotus Carlton. It might have had a twin-turbo engine and lotus-tuned handling but it was still a vauxhall with go faster bits. Here was a genuine performance alternative to the LOC but with all the real merc qualities that made Mercedes' reputation - i.e. state of the art technology, bulletproof build and image.

But its not just that - people like V8s. Here was a 6.0 litre V8 in a saloon! Who else was doing that?

Also, it was the forebar that made the Brabus EV12 possible - the next generation of this car cracked 200mph in a saloon body! This was almost 10 years ago! If you like cars then you can't help but be interested in such a thing.

Finally, its point. Exclusivity. Some people were prepared to pay a lot of money for that. Personally I was more interested in the early AMGs back then as I didn't think Brabus had quite cracked their styling direction. I have to admit to loving Brabus mercs now smile.gif

What we have here is a car hand built by Porsche, Delivers a fair amount of punch if not staggering compared to most modern supersalons and only 50 or so were officially imported into the UK. Based on the most solid and reliable Mercedes platform the W124 even in full 500 E guise its still as reliable as the 230 E that constituted most of the Taxis in Europe at the time. True V8 grunt that sounds like a V8 not a asthmatic 6... I love this car..

And you can buy one for £13k... 169144-ok.gif

Interesting fact.. In the Movie 'Ronin' The director a used a 500E to film some of the camera shots...By towing a car along at high speed ...now thats grunt..

Oh and I've found some pics of The Brabus 6.5.. In Silver and no tints looks amazing...Will post them when I get back to my own computer.. 169144-ok.gif

HERE is a good link with some more history and Info.. I never knew Brabus put the 7.3 ltr V12 in the Old E...WOW shocked.gif
