Golf94
hey my name is ryan. i've recently been playing with the idea of putting a TDi in an A1 Rabbit, but i have no idea where to start. what i do know is that i'm looking for an already deisel equipped rabbit for the swap...to make things a little easier. i understand swapping a TDi engine into a rabbit wont be any picnic but i was wondering if any of you had any tips or ideas that would make my life easier. my goal here is to build an economical car that still has that badass vw look thanks for any help you guys can offer
felixthecat1
This is a seriously thechnical question. I've never heard of anyone doing anything like that before. I know the VW scene is huge over in the US, there must be a raft of Mags to look in. I'll have a look at my back issues of Performance VW Mag and see if I can find anything. Oh, and welcome to TSN
Rustynuts
Hi Ryan, you've found the UK site for most things auto related, however, we don't have a lot of knowledge about the exact models you get over there. What you call the Rabbit, we call the Mk 1 Golf, but your emmissions restrictions etc make it a complicated job trying to work out this sort of job for you. It won't be easy and you'll need all the engine control unit (ecu) and electronics, including the instrument cluster. You'll also need the engine, transmission, driveshafts and front hubs. Then you'll need to fabricate engine mountings to hold it all in the right place, fabricate an exhaust from a collection of the two different systems, and I think that's about all I can think of off the top of my head. It'll be a shedload of work!
