CNBEVAN
I have a 2001 2.0 8v GTI. Recently the alarm keeps going off (factory fitted). when I put the ignition key in the display says 'Luggage Compartment' if I open and close the boot this message goes but then the display shows the picture of the passenger door being open when it is not. All doors and boot lock properly from the remote. Any ideas?
Rustynuts
Ah, that would be the microswitch in the lock sticking. No time at the moment but I'll see if I can dig out a fix later. Or you could investigate a bit further in the lock area, see what you find. If you can find the switch, try some aerosol contact cleaner in there, see if it helps. s4dreamer
I used to get the "Luggage Compartment" message occasionally on the old 4-motion we had. In the end I resorted to slamming the boot lid shut as hard as I could - that seemed to do the trick Didn't get the issue with the passenger door, though. Sorry. B15ETJ
it's your pipe to the washer that's sprayed water over your switch more than likely. Happens a lot if you don't use a good concentrate of screenwash in this cold weather you can try drying it off but you'll probably need a new switch . think cars after 2001 had a mod done to stop it happening but mine has done it twice. CNBEVAN
What switch would that be? Could you please tell me where it is located - I can have a go at it myself then. Thanks very much
B15ETJ
you need to take the inside cover off the back tailgate not actually sure what the switch looks like as i did'nt see the fellow change it but the main dealer will know straight away it's only a 2 min job !!!. if youre taking off the cover remember there are screw's inside the insert for putting your hand in to shut the tailgate you have to look up inside the handle to see them and just undo the spring clip's round the edges !!! vwdave
Oh WOW!! This is EXACTLY my problem! How do I get the tailgate trim off please? (I have been quoted £150+ at the dealers!!) Dave ps another night annoying the neighbours? Or Is there a temporary solution? Can I turn off the alarm? or Uncouple the wash from under the front boot lid? etc etc
B15ETJ
Right buddy to take off the tailgate trim open the tailgate fully there should be 2 inverted handles that you can hold to shut the tailgate. if you look up inside them you will see a screw in each one take them out then just prise off the trim all the way round the tailgate with a large screwdriver i'm not sure what the switch looked like but the mechanic dried it out with an airline but he did say that it usually needs a new switch although mine has been okay with just the drying out method. To lock the car but not set the alarm go inside the car push down the drivers door button and come out the passengers door. push the button down and hold the outside handle as you shut the door this will save you annoying the neighbours for another night £150 is absoulute robbery it only took the mechanic about 5 mins honestly. hope this of some help to you
