Crusader01
Headed off to the gym tonight, must have hit a hole in the road, tyre blows out. I think oh curses hope the wheel isn't scratched on the edges, it'll just be another tyre tomorrow and lots of wasted time. However when I get the wheel off its got a bit of dent on the inside edge but its also cracked and seperated 360 deg round just behind the front face so its totally wrecked. Also its come so loose that its has touched the brake disks. Whats my odds of getting a new wheel, tyre, brake disk and alignment out of Audi? GCab
Bloomin' heck Can't help with advice I'm afraid, but ... wow. Just from a hole in the road? Good luck with the fix, anyway
Big_Dan
No chance ... but you may get some joy out of the council if you can find the hole. Ouch!
chrisan
[ QUOTE ] Whats my odds of getting a new wheel, tyre, brake disk and alignment out of Audi? [/ QUOTE ] I'd be more inclined to take a photo of the pothole and take it up with the local authority - presuming of course that it happened on a public road? Chances are, the hole is a result of some third party (gas-board, etc), but the local authority is ultimately responsible. Cheers, Chris
UBM
Sorry to hear this. Here's what you need to do. 1. Take some pictures of the pothole with the date and time. 2. Take some pictures of the damage with similar date and time. 3. Take car to garage and get quote. 4. Contact local council Asap and register your case. 5. It might be an inurance job - they might act on your behalf against the council, but I doubt it... Good luck DM

Chav
sorry mate! ...do try and contact the council after getting the evidence that DM suggests... it sounds like a serious hole, which is their responsibility.
Crusader01
RAC man who checked it over reckoned I'd hit an object, i'll have a scan round when its light. Strange thing is that the impact didn't feel anything like as bad as the damage is. I'll be after the Council and a new wheel tomorrow. C Glad the Sportbacks didn't get that puncture kit and did at least get a wheel of some sorts. A gallon of glue wouldn't have helped tonight. UBM
Was it the RAC or Audi roadside assistance? Whichever, see if yiu can get the guy (he probably gave you a reference number ) to put something in writing. It can only help your case... Big_Dan
You'll get soem joy out of the council after a bit of fuss. If it was a hole, photograph it with a ruler for scale and measure height, width, depth and position on the road. All roads are supposed to be checked every 6 months and they have to prove it has been checked in the last 6 months or they are liable ...

Crusader01
Well the news is:- those wheels are expensive £307 plus the tyre. Audi rather unhelpful and uninterested, the Tyre dealers had never seen anything like it before. In fact has anybody else ever had a wheel split in two? I walked the course this afternoon but couldn't find any holes, the edge of the road was a bit ragged but I don't think I went over the edge as the inner rim isn't scratched. I assume the Council stop bothering beyond the white edging line anyway on the assumption that its best to be on the right side of it. Having thought about it, I really don't feel I hit anything with sufficient force to bust the whole wheel in two, my guess is there was a flaw in the alloy somewhere. Bit disappointed in Audi I had expected them to send the wheel off for somebody to have a look at given the spectacular damage. Hopefully the new wheel will be here tomorrow AM and I can get to the Tyre place before they close. Bit hacked of with it really. C
UBM
Feck - the alloy split in two? Sounds like you hit a breeze block or something.. Hope you get it sorted.
Crusader01
Here's another picture, got the new wheel and tyre on this morning and had the old tyre taken off the wrecked wheel. It seems that the rip in the tyre didn't actually puncture it, whatever I hit just bent the inside edge of the rim and then it just cracked in half. The tracking was OK ! IanHo
Feck in hell, that's bad. Glad to hear it did no more damage, there's hope for me yet then. Have you thought about calling Chipsaway to see if they can repair that for you? Sorry couldn’t resist.

Ian_C
Not more Audi wheels going kerplunk over pot holes. Glad your car survived to live another day even if the rim did not.
Crusader01
Ian, have you had a similar thing happen? I'd be very interested to compare notes with anyone else who has had a problem with the Alloys.
Ian_C
No, merely a reference to the original 'soft' RS4 alloys. Ian C
IanHo
Unfortunately mine was of my own making , see my latest thread. Alloy didn’t split in two, but I do find the Audi Alloys get marked very easily compared to other makes I've had.
jwo
This happened to a colleagues BMW 17inch alloys. A stone was flicked up into the inside of the alloy, bounced around and split the rim. This may have happened to yours - hence you felt nothing. BMW (who have good customer service!) picked up the cost for the replacement wheel! Hope this may help! John

Crusader01
Update:- Having been told to clear off by Audi locally and HQ. I submitted a report to VOSA and a few days later got a call saying that my wheel would be collected and taken to VAG, which it has. So I am a little more content in that they are now having a look at it. C
