geo_nr1
Wanting to buy clay bar, as the on the road is taking its toll on the paint work. What is the name of the lubricant for the bar, the polish or wax to use after using the clay bar and what is the name of the TSN'er who gets the stuff cheaper. TP27
Geo. TSN contact (Bushy) is no more...suggest that you try :- www.meguiars.co.uk Hopefully there's a local stockist but you can buy it direct on a secure server for home delivery. Never used the Clay Bar but a number of posts have suggested it's good stuff. TP.

cleanimage
Most companies that sell clay bars recomend you use a quick detailer type product which is pretty much the same stuff that is used by waterless detailers, or some light wax product. We just use soapy water and this does the job.
Tomk
yup soapy water , the detailer is really an expensive way to do it
geo_nr1
So are you saying I should use soapy water as the lubrication for the clay bar? When you say soapy water, excuse the ignorance, but are you referring to soap or car soap? So once you have used the bar, should you wax or polish after? DHA
If you buy a large detialer, 5litres it is not too expensive. Clay bar is very good when used with detailer, makes your paintwork very smooth.

RossG
As do Drivers in Charing Cross. Not sure if they hold an entire range though...
geo_nr1
Both are quite handy. Been in to Drivers before and bought the metal cleaner but as you say.....I dont think they have the full range.
cleanimage
I was just reading through this post, and I hope it might be okay for me to do a little market research. If not, then I'm sure a moderator will delete this post. The standard meguiars clay bars (G1116) are retail ones, I'm pretty sure they are different to the ones they supply to the trade (product code D6100 and D6200). All good stuff. Now I can get claybars... they are designed for professional use. And they are better than the Meguiars professional range ones. In fact, they are the origional clay bars made by the origional manufacturer... but they don't have a fancy label and I'm afraid they are far cheaper (sorry about that). Does that put you off, does it have to be Meguiars? Or would you guys be interested in professional products at reasonable prices, especially if you got an additional tyresmoke discount? I'm not sure why Megs does a retail claybar and why it's different for the trade ones (probably milder), and I'd have to look into any reasons why an enthusiast shouldn't use a 'for trade' claybar.. so this isn't an offer, and I make no promises. I'm just trying to get a feel for if it's worth pursuing. I mean, I have an AutoGlym supplier and I can get Meguiars too, but there are a whole world of products out there. Meguiars do some products that can't be beaten... but not many. So, who would be interested in a hyperthetical group buy, and who wouldn't and why not? Thanks. cleanimage
Depending on products? so, suppose I took a clay bar down to the Essex meet, let everybody have a go, and they got on here saying it was:- A) okay, but not as good as maguiars, B) Not as quite as good as Megs but better value for money, C) as good as Meguiars. what stage would you be interested? Is it a case of only the best is good enough, if so, where do you get your info on what's best?

cleanimage
I guess the proof of the pudding is in the eating eh? So I would have to organize some demo's and maybe a free sample or two to select individuals. I think that answers one question at least!

Luke
Danny I think most people on here would go on your recomendation. We buy Autoglym/Meg's because we dont mnow about much else. If you were to say that a product was as good as Megs or better and was half the price I think most people on here would but it. Just got to be careful that you dont stir up trouble for yourself as not everyone will be pleased and could start moaning. Sometimes its better to keep a lower profile if you know what i mean

cleanimage
When is the next essex meet? I'll tell you what, I have already said I'll attend, but I could bring some stuff, Meguiars even gave me permission to re-bottle and resell w-dressing once upon a time, although i don't know if the offer still stands. I'm not saying I am going to sell retail, after all, I don't even sell trade! but it sure would be interesting to compare and test products with you guys. After all, we hardly see retail products as they are too expensive for us. For example, we use an AutoGlym wax polish which is trade only... it's magic stuff! Expensive even by trade standards, but fantastic for hiding swirls and scratches. but you know what I really want to do? I want to find THE wheel cleaner. cleanimage
Well, we manage okay, but we mix our own, and then apply it wearing thick rubber gloves, goggles and face masks. It's stong stuff! yet we never get any problems with stained wheels... yet Iv'e seen loads of people post of forums that such-and-such a wheel cleaner destroyed their wheels. I don't get it. I think we use a fairly week caustic mix, although still strnger than the average off-the-shelf product.
