dougb
First time post in here so bear with me. How do you get the air con 'condensor' off/out of the way, when removing the lock carrier? I started removing the bumper last night after work in preparation for renewing the timing belt. This is on a 1999 passat TDi. I am wanting to completely remove the lock carrier as I need to renew the coolant and would like the advantage of more access space -( suffer back ache reaching over ). The Haynes manual is not too clear. It mentions undoing the condesor bracket and just tieing this up with wire. Problem is the bracket looks different to me, and the hoses/pipes seem attached to both carrier and vehicle??? Is it possible that I have to remove the air con Pump from the engine and that the carrier will swing off with the pump being carefully held to it? Any help appreciated, as I am continuing this job this weekend. Doug.
dougb
Done it! Panic over. The problem was a perceived one from reading the Haynes manual. Once I had released everything else and then started moving the lock carrier around I could see the air con equipment was possible to leave attached. I had to carefully 'hinge' out the whole assembly like a farmers gate! The air con pipes have a flexible section which allowed this. Brilliant, made things really accessable. Still time consuming though -removing everthing. Doug
