AudiPartner
So, as pleased as I am with my S3, I do miss my M3. I got rid of it about 6 months ago as I couldn't afford the insurance renewal. I have since found somewhere that will insure me for an amount I am willing to pay, so what do I do? (If I were to buy another M3 it would be a 98/99 S/T Evo convertible.)
NewNiceMrMe
There is no debate surely!!! Maybe a bit of an argument about the later car, older car thing, but such a different animal - and as you're missing it I'm surprised you're even asking! RossG
I didn't think you liked the E36 M3 though...? For what its worth, I would stick with the S3, even just for the toys, and yes, the fact that it is quite subtle and modern looking.
NewNiceMrMe
I don't, particularly, but IMO it is a better overall car to the S3.
Mollox
Well it seems like a simple choice between well-respected performance or a comfortable cruiser really. If its performance you want, keep the S3!
NewNiceMrMe
Oh touche!
Brabus
I'd have an S3 over a wide-boy E36 M3.
MattMay
If it was me id keep the S3 till i could afford the e46 M3. I think the E36 are nice but with the new 3 series coming out soon its gonna look a bit dated.
NewNiceMrMe
Actually, I've changed my mind. He's right. Save a bit more for an E46.
AudiPartner
Ok, heres the plan... I'm gonna sell the S3, and buy a "winter bargain" Evo convertible. I'll aim for a 99 T reg which when I sell at the start of the summer could make a couple of quid. Then, if I miss the S3 I will use the money (which should now be a greater sum) to buy a newer, lower mileage S3 (with Porsche brakes and an arm rest!!). With regards to an E46 M3, thats a big jump. I'm looking at spending £13k on the evo, an E46 would set me back at least another £10k. A big difference.
