IanHo
Not Good - Just coming home major slide around a bend thought I got it but kissed the curb doing about 40. Rim knacked all way around, only about a couple of inches not touched, b*ll*cks. Road must have been a bit damp, as I come around there all the time. I'll go take a pic in a min, but I've got to go to London in the morning & there are those little spiky bits right next to the tyre. Reckon it's safe? as I've only got a space saver spare. I'm just off to cry.
IanHo
What do you reckon? Too far gone for Chips Away type guy i.e. New Wheel. Could have been worse, thought I was heading for the hedge. Steering etc. feels OK just worried about a Blow Out on the Motorway , although there is no visable damage to the tyre. UBM
Sorry to hear about this. I know how p1553d off I was when I put a 2 inch gash on my front near side on holiday. Hope you get it sorted! Chin up!
DHA
Would get the alignement and suspension looked at. If you clipped a kerb at 40 there would possibly have been a shock through the suspension.
IanHo
Well I'm guessing at 40, was a bit busy at the time!!!! Thinking about it, I reckon it was more like 30 as I put the brake pedal through the floor and I wasn't spanking it (honest). Car feels fine, but will know better tomorrow. DHA
At any speed you can damage suspension, i would get it checked to be on the safe side.
IanHo
I am going to get it checked, just a b*tch it happen's on a Friday night when I've got to be in London before nine in the morning. Oh well if anyone see's an A4 S-Line down a ditch on the M40 tomorrow morning you'll know something got damaged .
Avus_Bub
Sorry to see that . Looks a bit on the nasty side to me I did my N/S/R a while back while reversing into a space just a little 10mm scratch but was I pi**ed off? By the look of it I'd try to clean up the sharp edges with a file or something , just in case it does cut into the tyre. You really dont get any room for error with these 18's do you? IanHo
Tell me about it, give me back 15's with a 65 profile tyre. As a wise man once said, there are only three certainties in life: 1) Your Born. 2) You Die. 3) You will kurb those alloys. I've e-mailed Chipsaway, awaiting the bad news. I've been out with a screwdriver, getting off the really bad bits, not sure if I own a file, will have to check.
bazza_g
Sorry to hear about the wheel - hope it can be sorted with min fuss. p.s. you missed the 4th certainty in life - TAX
UBM
Feck - just seen the pics. Buy a new wheel and use the damaged one as a full size spare. Lucky it was only the wheel - dunno if the audi roadside assistance boys could help - they get you priority booking in at the local stealers.... IanHo
Dam, and I shouldn’t have, just doing my tax return ant the feckers stinging me again. Any how couldn’t find a file, so got the next best thing - don't laugh a trowel. Reckon it was designed for the job, just run the pointy end between the wheel & tyre and flick out those nasty spiky bits . Just to add insult to injury, missus shrunk my jacket in the wash and now I've got to wear a Toyota one - yuk .
IanHo
Just checked on VAG Parts, didn't have the RS6 alloy listed, but a S4 18" was £225 - feck. I'll wait for the verdict off chipsaway first and then make a descision one way or t'other.
UBM
225 sobs - ouch! Good luck - hope it checks out ok.
Sparky
My car came with a full sized spare alloy wheel. Can you not just swap them over and keep the nasty looking one in as a spare? (as was mentioned). Was it a sideway slide or rear end stepping out? At least nothing more serious happened and that you're in one piece!
IanHo
My spares only a space saver . Front end just lost all grip and I was heading straight on like ice on the road, except it wasn’t cold enough for ice. Jammed the ancors on still sliding, managed to get a little grip back but just hit the curb with the inside front, then it was fine. Beginning to think there may have been oil/diesel or something on the road as there was just a total lack of grip. Never experienced anything like it before . IanHo
Sorry, know what you're saying now. Hmmmm have'nt got a price on the wheel yet but looking at VAG Parts it's got to be £225 at least for the wheel + £150 for a tyre . Soooooo I'll see if it can be fixed and if it can that should cost me no more than £100, watch this space.

Milo
Ouch - that looks painful/expensive. £225 is a lot of money but look on the bright side, it could have been a lot worse (not much consolation now I know). Personally I would rather replace the wheel rather than have anyone attempt to repair it - as others have said at least you can have a full size spare then even if it is battered. Paul
That wheel is truely knackered. I would strongly advise replacing it, and getting the geometry checked. My brother had a incident at a lower speed than that, and although the wheel was ok, it completely fecked the steering rack which needed to be replaced. happened at a slower speed too. Mac
Sorry fella no disrespect but I'm amazed that you're 'just' considering getting the wheel fixed You could have done some major damage there you know? Worth at least getting it checked...If it is damaged couldn't you insurance it? Rather have a knacked insurance NCB than a knackered car that I was still driving. IanHo
Never said I was just getting the wheel fixed, in fact I did say I was getting suspension tracking etc. checked out. [ QUOTE ] I am going to get it checked [/ QUOTE ] Anyway got to London in one piece, No problems . Drove for 60 miles with stereo turned off to check for strange noises etc. nothing. Did my own low tech tracking test on an empty stretch of the M40 i.e. hands off wheel - straight as a dye. Chipsaway chappy called this morning, is coming over next week to see if wheel is repairable. I don't think he would advise repair if it was not possible or dangerous. Don't know weather to go to Stealers to get it checked, or an independent, call me a cynic but Stealers eyes may light up at the prospect of a new steering rack, suspension bits etc. Any recommendations? marke
I know this sounds nearly as bad, but our local Kwik-Fit are quite reasonable & honest most of the time. Either that or an independent. Depends on whether it's still under warranty or not, as I know what they're like when you need to make a claim....
UBM
I'd go independent for the tracking and then the stealers if there is a problem. I wouldn't mention what happened - just say you are curious to have it checked...
