xspencex
A lot of cars are tested in Dubai these days... The heat is ideal to test the limits...I've come across a few manufacturers testing out there.. I've only had my camera once to take spy shots though.. NewNiceMrMe
I like the looks of the rear. Yes, I could just fancy one of those. In my dreams.
CarMad
Just read an article that says that the temperature in the testing for the cars is only 8C below the highest temperature ever recorded. They put the Aston through the same testing as the a Focus gets, might just help on the build quality for the car !
Smudge
The AM V8 is front cover of this months Evo, followed by a big article on how much testing Aston did with this car. Two years & two million miles, including weeks in Dubai, up & down both the Stelvio & Grossglockner passes, various tests around the Ring & Nardo, they certainly seem to have given the car a bit of a pounding. Aston seem to be placing it heavily against the 997, and clearly thinking it will outclass the 997 as a whole. Which would be nice for a "British" car manufacturer beating a German one for once. xspencex
Seems like a pretty imortant car for Aston, they have done well with the last facelifted modesl of the DB7 then the Vanquish came along and kind of rejuvinated Aston again..The DB9 again improves the range enormously and now they have a 997 beater...yup things are looking good for aston...Now Ford needs Jaguar to come up with a Boxster beater...That F-type from a few years ago looked nice..Jag needs pick up the pace.. loddrik
Every car tries to be a 996 beater or a 997 beater, good though the Aston is likely to be, I won't better the 997, which, as far as I can see, isn't likely to be bettered for the money, Porsche has got the pakage honed to perfection. xspencex
Porsche will always produce a rounded sports car..I'm a big fan of them but I can't help but be bored with the 997 already... I'm usually really happy to see one..but I barely turn my head to see one now....When they first came out I thought they had done the right thing by designing it to look similar to the 996/993...I now think that was a mistake... I'm eagerly awaiting something less boring (never thought I'd say that about Porsche) to look at... que GT3 and Turbo...
CarMad
Couldn't agree more. 997 and Boxster are just far too similar to the previous models, playing safe in performance car teritory is a recipe for disaster IMO. As for the AM V8, only bad thing I have heard is that it might have quite firm suspension, the car is very focused towards performance and track driving more than day to day work. You will have to get a DB9 if thats what you want, well thats one view anyway, will have to wait and see.
Ari
I'm guessing that the Porsche 911 (997) will probably be technically better than the Aston Martin. Whether it will be more desirable than the Aston remains to be seen though...
Ritey
Aston for me hands down everytime - looks and sounds are enough for me
MattR32
I'd go for a 997 Carrera S (or turbo if/when it's released) but would of course test the Aston just to make sure. Just need this business to take off fast! If Porkers are pricey/fast VWs then Aston Martins are pricey/fast Fords. Ford still stands for "Fix Or Repair Daily" to me.
