AudiPartner
Should I avoid it like the plague? Or is it ok? I've heard it can be unreliable and expensive to maintain. Anyone owned one?
loddrik
Avoid like the plague, my mate is a BMW chief technician, and believe me, he knows all about it. It is an appalling system, it is extremely clunky and prone to faults, worrying when you will have no warranty. He was telling me that they cannot fix them, only patch things up until it goes wrong, he says it is one of the worst technologies BMW ever introduced on a production car. The later SSG and SMG were a vast improvement. Believe me, I have it on good authority as there are only a small number of chief technicians in the country so they know what they are talking about AVOID e36 M3's WITH SMG AT ALL COSTS, IT IS A CRAP SYSTEM AND WILL CAUSE YOU MANY PROBLEMS AND REGRETS!!!!!!
