UBM
Been reading quite a few posts recently about people who have had or currently have Bose, but would not bot miss it. I've only got the Symphony II in mine, but it kicks enough butt for me - enough the get the parcel bouncing anyway. Never really fancied Bose, specially at the price they were asking. Am I really missing something?
Chav
if you have it loud, eg volume 19/20 or higher, you can tell the difference. the BOSE doesnt break up, and the midrange stays detailed. the door speakers in the cab keep the bass controlled, and the sub in the saloon sounds even better
UBM
I wouldn't say mine broke up even at 30 (volume!), although the car bangs a lot!
Chav
at the end of the day, the 450 quid buys you a better amp and some higher quality speakers. the difference wont be huge, but noticeable. the BOSE system doesnt compare to home audiophile stuff well, but its pretty good for a car setup. a side by side comparison is the only way to tell properly how much difference it would make to you...different people are used to different quality sound etc
UBM
hmmm.....might be a possibility in my next car I feel - I like my toons!
bearra
Accoustics in a cab are a nightmare! Had hard time getting a good souding system in my 80 cab. For me Bose is outstanding IMHO, full volume and no distortion. Have no criticisms at all ! Love driving up the M1 with system on Max
hashluck
Think that sums up the main difference. If you like to play it loud then Bose makes more sense. Used to be real serious about my car hi-fi but now it is mostly radio. I have not missed Bose but I no longer qualify as a serious listener (in which case Bose might be a little disappointing for the money). Re-sale might be an issue as well but less likely on actual value more on desirability when up against other cars. I would say that the standard set-up GALA works better than whatever system Bose use.
DHA
An A3/S3 opinion here, my gf has standard in her A3 but I have Bose in my S3. Bose gives a much fuller sound and when the volume is higher there is a lot less distorsion. Yes you could buy a better setup aftermarket for the price but the Bose kit is factory fitted which is a big plus. I went for Bose in my new S4, it was an option I didn't consider not having. [/ QUOTE ] The Gala on my MMI is pretty crap to be honest, doesn't matter what level you set it. Not sure it works at all!
Ari
The Bose in my Cabrio is the only car stereo I've ever had where I have the bass and treble absolutely flat (ie in the middle or zero postion). I think it is superb, its no Max Power Bass thumping stystem, just full powerful real quality sound.
UBM
I was about to say the same about the GALA on my symphony II. I have it set to 5 (max) but it does not seem to make any difference ?
Scotty
I've not heard Bose in a Cab but I've done a sound check with an Avant owner as we had quite different opinions. The Avant is a long way behind the Bose in the saloon. It seems the sub in th erear shelf of the saloon really makes a huge difference. I'm not just saying this as I'm a saloon owner. My friend was in total agreement. Sorry to any avant owners.
IanHo
I agree, the sub in the Avant is buried at the bottom of the right hand compartment in the boot. There is a Big Bose piece of plastic that looks like it makes some attempt at directing the bass back in to the cabin but otherwise it's trapped with no where to get out. The sub is a tiny little affair as well, at first I thought it was a fan for the amp, but then heard it making vibrating noises which I assume is it's attempt at generating some kick ass bass.
