scooby_simon
Starting to spend a lot of time on the exercise bike in the office (I need it ). So, how can I get to watch TV on my PC - terrestrial would be fine, so is it a simple thing ? I have a high-end DELL PC. Can I get a "TV card" that can capture a normal Analogue signal/or do I need a "set top box" type arrangement ? I've got a fairly hi-end Dell PC at the mo. Chav
its easy scooby, even cheap tv cards have a standard rf-in e.g. they input an analogue signal... you just shove the card in your pc, connect an aerial and voila!
Snail
Si, If you just want to watch TV, then PC World has some pretty cheap cards, that should do the job, and cost less than £20. They are pants if you want to record stuff from them, but for watching TV, they are fine.
scooby_simon
OK, done a bit of wandering around PCwork web site and (of course) there are lots of choices. As You've both said, Simple car is around 20 quid plus an aerial. So looked (as one does) at some of the other options. So remote control might be nice don't want to have to get of the bike to change channels do we Recording might be usefull to (well maybe) Don't need radio as I can get that via my broadband connection So there are then some options 1, Leadtek Winfast TV USB2 TV/FM Tuner, which I assume need a aerial, but no record or remote. (54.77 inc VAT) linky 2, StarTech.com - USBTVTUNER - External USB TV Tuner with Remote Control (£ 57.59 inc VAT) is this a "freeview" box type thingy ? Looks like it too needs an aerial/cable TV connection. linky 3, Leadtek WinFast PVR2000 - TV/FM Tuner - with hardware MPEGII encoder and remote control (£ 76.09 inc VAT ) Aerial needed I assume. linky 4, Leadtek WinFast DV2000 - TV / video / radio input adapter - PCI.(£ 45.42 inc VAT) Looks like it too needs an aerial linky So I am now really confused. Does such a thing as a "Freeview box plus TV card for a PC" exist ? I now think this is what I want if possible. Again record would be nice, but not essential, remote required if possible. Snail
Simon, How about this ? Admitedly its ebay, but im sure you can find the same thing elsewhere. If you PC is fast, you'll be able to record in good quality too.

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe, problem is that I do not have a Cable socket or TV aerial socket in the Office so I'll be (prolly) using a stand alone aerial. Paul
You WILL need a good aerial ive run a Hauppauge Win TV theatre TV card for last 5 years or so and it was a £100 card at the time. My signal goes first through a single booster first then into a splitter/booster for the rest of the house. Its watchable, but picture is not brilliant, depends if you can tolerate it. Ive toyed with the idea of either a digital card (pci) or set top box, but have yet to do anything.
