loddrik
What do people make of them, don't think anyone on here has one, not as a main car anyway, I don't know anyone who owns one, are they really 'the car with no image and conotations? Pincher
I like the new ones (9-3 I think), especially the Convertible
RossG
I really like most of them, especially the newer ones such as the 93 in Vector/Aero spec, and the big sporty 95. Was just going to post a similar question, as I have seen a couple of nice 2001/2002 93 Aero Convertibles in the 205 bhp spec. Am considering one as a bit of fun, as its looking increasing likely that L will get to go back to uni, thus ruling out the R32, and I really fancy a cab. Pincher
Like this one. Pretty expensive though. An Aero starts at around £29.5K before any extras.
Chav
I like the 9-3 aero's looks. But i wouldnt own one... not as stylish, interior's good but not the best, and the depreciation makes them more expensive to own.
RossG
Yes, I would own one. Case is certainly helped by their subtle (non) image. Suits L down to the ground, and she is also confident that I would have to drive slower due to the scuttle shake

[/ QUOTE ] Would I own one - definitely yes Would I pay that sort of money for one? Absolutely not. Plenty of other things I could buy for nigh on 30 Bags. R32North
Love 95 Estates. Looked a couple as the 'new' family car. Bad depreciation so I'd buy used. Saw a 52 plate 2.2 TID estate with every goody know to man, low miles, SAAB dealer car, only £14.5K. Thats way low
sdmcintyre
My brother had the 95 estate 2.3 T, drove it few times, man that was one fast smooth car. Luxury of a Merc/BMW with the build quality of an audi, IMO. He had it for 4 years and loved it, nothing wrong in that time only 4th kid made him change. sayerbloke
Of cars with a "quieter" image, I think I prefer Lexus to Saab.
Pincher
Had an IS200 - Couldn't wait to get rid. Smooth drive but totally uninvolving. Couldn't ever get comfy in it either. Damned electric seats.
ian_m
yeah I think I could own one, but I would have to buy a used one so that I wouldnt suffer the massive depreciation of the first 2 years.
Rich
I'm planning on buying one as soon as soon as I can get rid of the current car. Looking at the new shape 93 in vector form. I would not buy new mind, they depreciate way too fast. I'm looking at about 2 years old. I test drove one and they feel smooth, pretty quick (175bhp engine) and have lots of buttons and gadgets...just what I like! The quality felt good, although I have heard a lot of people moanign about rattles....but you seem to get them with just about any car nowdays. Most are easy to resolve yourself apparently. Buying second hand the Aero (210bhp) is not actually much more money, but I'm looking for a good performance/mpg match hence the 175 vector. Spec between the vector and Aero is similar, the bodykit and esp are the main differences.
saab
Well, I like them but I'm obviously biased. There is no doubt that second hand they offer extremely good value for money. I think the image has shifted aver the last few years. Once they were viewed as quirky but a safe choice for someone who wanted a car to last a very long time and was looking for something more enjoyable to drive and more imaginative than a Volvo. More recently Saab having firmly entered the company car market are now seen as bit more mainstream and particularly in styling as rather conservative. Build quailty and longevity pretty good but probably not at VW standards now the company is under the watchful eye of GM. A lot of the parts on the 9-3 are shared with the Vauxhall Vectra. blackjack
My father has an IS200 and I've got the old shape 93, so I've driven both. The IS200 is a very smooth, almost like driving an iron! It also seems solid and looks great even now that its a few years old. However, I prefer my Saab, the engine feels more involving and hatch back makes it just about the most practical car in the class. Moreover, the Saab really comes in to its own on motorways, its a darned fine way to travel 200 miles at a decent speed. The turbo charged engine will happily cruise all day at illegal speeds while doing less than 3000 rpm and the seats and cabin in general are very comfortable for everyone in the car. Rich
I must admit, only a small person could sit behind me for a long journey it in...the leg room space is limited in the back, but then I do have my seat a long way back. No worse than what my S3 was. It comes with a lot of standard kit too! Rich
