DaddyDub
Hi guy's, I havn't been on for a while cos the IT bods at work think TSN isn't work related so have blocked me access to the site, so im limited to evening posting, anyway I digress. I have just been speaking to Volkswagen UK who told me that the MK 5 R32 is due to be released late this year (Nov/Dec) in Germany and early 2006 (Feb/March) over here in the UK. It will be limited production again so you'll need to get in there quick. They also dispelled any of the R36 romours by saying it will deffinatly be the 3.2 V6 we know and love under the bonnet. It will put out an estimated 260-280ps. Go on say it, you missed me didn't ya.
R32Ash
If I could get cast iron proof that it was going to happen (not that I don't believe you, it's just the VAG muppets) I'd start making moves towards securing a mkv R32. I'm really tempted to give it a go, but I'd need to sell the current one, and I'd be gutted if it all fell flat. I doubt I'd find a better example than I've got now if I had to replace her with another mkiv - I know wouldn't be happy with a mkv gti.

Luke
I also think if the mk5 gti is £20-£25k, the R will be £24-29k. Its got to be to make it look a different product
mooret
Not sure we can trust VAG on this one. Doesn't the Porsche Cayenne share the R32 lump or am I getting confused? Anyway all the rumours in the press indicate that the cayenne will have a 3.6 litre lump soon. Also the new facelifted Passat is going to get a 3.6 litre lump. I think that the 3.6 will be required due to new offerings from BMW with their 130i (its sooooooo ugly but you know people will buy them) and the new Focus ST with the 250bhp volvo T5 engine. You cant stand still VAG, please please please make it at least a 3.6 with a minimum of 280bhp or even better go the whole hog and make it nice round 300. thats enough dreaming for one day and anyway, imagine the delight of the insurance companies! Rachel
The MkV is a bigger car than the MkIV. That and the fact the MkIV R32 can be easily upgraded to the 300hp mark for only a couple of thousand $$ make me question whether it's worth it. Considering ditching my current R32 for the touted "new" one that is... I think the current R32 is going to become a modern classic - as it was VW's "last hurrah" for the body shape. They put some really nice touches on it too - with the Koenig leather interior, fat steering wheel, monster brakes, 18" Oz (Ronal?) alloys, AWD via an upgradeable Haldex, a very understressed 3.2l V6 that should be indestructible (unless you go the HGP bi-turbo route), serious suspension, 6 real forward gears, Xenon lights etc. All standard bits. I doubt the new car will be as "chuckable" - if only because it is bigger. You can also guarantee it'll be much more expensive - and maybe with a less desirable options list. my 2c worth. english68
If new car (MkV) is as 'stiff' as write-up tell us, it should be more chuckable than ours. V6 is heavy though, so is Haldex..... So, VW, make it REAR WHEEL DRIVE!!!

R32North
Ahhh, all by which time I'll be driving some diesel powered family wagon, logging Mrs Wife and Sprog about. I may keep my current R but if I change cars I know I won't be getting the new one. Audi Avant or Saab Estate for me for a couple of years
mooret
Hope you are right DaddyDub as it will keep our residuals up, or is that another thread..........and no offence taken. Can't say I will be in the market for one anyway. The wife uses the R during the week and she keeps going on about Boxsters and 3 series convertables . No she is not a hairdresser and neither am I! With the prospect of one of those I think we will keeping the R a long, long time!

I have two just now, both mine as Mrs doesn't drive, she'll be learning soon and will want something like a polo. I need my Estate car for my BMX / Mini MX and towing, plus I could do with a van as well. That would make 4 cars. Think I'll pass the Audi over to Bruv so its still availbale for use and get a wee Berlingo or Scudo or something:)
Riz
The MK5 GTi has a good base for the MK5 R32.... lets hope VW can deliver the goods just like the did with the current one, also keeping the production numbers low will help.
