bec21tt
Opinions please folks, I'm due to pick up the new car on the 1st March but the TT's tax expires the previous day, so, should I risk it or ask for a loan car for the night from the garage? TIA Bec
scooby_simon
Loan car. If you drive the car without road tax, you are un-insured.
byron13
Not so. Road Tax is a separate issue. I this circumstance you would not be in grief with a police officer.
Sparky
Technically, you get a 14 day grace period at the end of your Tax year, but you're supposed to have proof that you intend to buy a new tax disc (how can you prove that??!) I'd still ask for a loan car and drop yours off a day earlier. Not long till March 1st now!!
UBM
I thought it was technically illegal as well to be driving with no tax and it would be hard to prove you were going to update it for your old car. I'd get a loan car, but best go for something small and weeny just in case it changes your mind before you pick up your new one.... Oh, and don't forget to check the insurance for the loaner... scooby_simon
I am sure you will find that your motor insurance states that it is not valid if : 1, Your car has no VALID road fund 2, Your car does not have a valid MOT (if applicable) Just get a Loan car. BeakerBuddy
Assuming that, like most of us, you'll get no sleep the night before, why not camp outside the dealer to be there first thing in the morning to collect your shiny new car? No problems with the tax or loan car then!
UBM
I didn't sleep for about a week before collecting mine!
