hey,

i recently bought a base model 2001 reg golf. i bought it cause of the really good price but am getting frustrated with the lack of central locking. i called a couple of vw dealerships, but they have said that they don't fit this. i've looked into buying central locking kits or having it installed by a professional but would like some advice before i either take apart my doors or pay ALOT for someone else to do it. hopefully someone can answer a few questions i have:

-since i don't fancy doing the job myself, what's an appropriate price to expect to pay for a professional to install central locking on this car?

-can having central locking installed lead to future electrical problems in the car?

-will this count as a "modification" of the vehicle and effect my insurance?

-what's a goog make of central locking kit that i should look to have installed?

-does anyone know of a reputable professional who can do this work properly and without ripping me off?

thanks

I bought a 2000 Polo SDI E 5dr becuase of the price,

and got really bored of the manual locking so i went to a car modification business and they installed a standard central locking kit for £260

The only promlem is they can't do the boot because all pre-2002 vokswagen use hydrolic boot lock and not motors so i am still using a key to open and lock the boot, the only way past that is to either get a lock from another Polo that has Central lock (but that means you will also need the key for that car, if something goes wrong)

Or if you where to Flush your boot (basically that means if you wear to remove the badges the handle ect they would but a boot release in the car beside the drive seat or put a key fob on your key for opening it via remote.)

i found this very disappointing and not really worth the money that i had to pay

I am never getting an 'E' again, it will be 'S +' or nothing.

i am still trying to look up other methods of getting round this
