bazza_g
I've got to say, I've had it for a couple of weeks now and its brilliant - I work alot at clients sites and not only am I very happy with the speed and reliable connection - its also very nice to have my mobile back in service, as previously it was being used as a GPRS modem. This is my first post from the datacard - I'm in a Taxi half way between Stockholm and Arlanda airport McAfee Internet speedo says : File Size: 150.005 KB Time Elapsed: 4.687 seconds 256 Kbps Can't say fairer than that

CarMad
I sat at my Gate in Dublin last week with a superb strength wireless connection. Didn't cost me a thing and was very fast. The more hotspots the better if you ask me. Haven't needed a card yet, but glad to know they work well.
Frodo
I've had a Vodafone 3G card for almost a year and can't wait to cancel the contract. The speed is awful and connection is just as bad. I try to use it on the train so maybe it doesn't like switching masts? Good news my rail company, Southern, is introducing Wi_Fi networks on the train at 32Mbps, even works through tunnels. Now I will be able to surf whilst the train is delayed! GCab
This is interesting - I haven't been able to get through to TSN for a week now on Voda 3G. The same laptop, at home on wi-fi, works fine, and I can use my work PC on TSN at the same time as I'm failing to get it via Vodafone on the laptop (i.e. the site is up). The laptop opens up any other site OK. What could cause this ? Even the basic www.tyresmoke.net homepage won't open on 3G.
Frodo
My guess is probably Vodafone use Proxy servers that they force traffic through. Proxies can be very troublesome. I haven't used my 3G card for ages because it is just so unuseable.
GCab
yes - Mollox suggested there's been some hassle with DNS last week (I thought I'd cross-post this to Bugs of Doom also) - maybe combination of that and out of date Vodafone proxies (otherwise why only this site?) Hopsta
We were having some DNS issues with the site, all sorted now I'm told Safe bet is to always keep copy of your hosts.sam file with TSN hardcoded into it

I've not tried it on a train but it managed a decent speed connection from Stockholm centre all the way to the Airport (40mins away) without dropping once ! Frodo
Hmmm I haven't used a host file for a while but isn't the hosts file just hosts and the lmhosts.sam? Host file is for DNS and LMHosts is for NetBIOS/WINS?
Frodo
Yes have been very unimpressed. Doesn't seem as bad when stationery so my theory of high speed switching. I hardly every use it now relying on my Blackberry instead. However, as I mentioned earlier I am looking forward to the Hotspots from T-Mobile on my train. GCab
You might want to note, bazza, that roaming is not part of your inclusive Megabytes, even if you're on a European Vodafone net. Daft bugger that I am, I ran up a £100 bill in Berlin by not realising that having spare inclusive capacity wouldn't give me free access on Vodafone DE - if I had, I'd have paid $15 for the hotel's wifi access instead
bazza_g
Cheers, you're absolutley right - I checked this after an unfortunate incident using GPRS in France £10/mb - I was told within Europe its £5.88/mb so long as I'm on a Vodafone partner network - like Voda Sweden. Even with the roaming my company should happy as they will be paying less than the previous £100/month average for my GPRS data - using orange in the UK at £3/mb ! GCab
Er, yes. You remember that 36Mb movie of Swiss air force jets flying around the Alps, that someone posted in LoJ in October ? Guess what I started watching when I got back to the hotel pi$$ed after conference beers... at, as you say, £5.88/mb...
