Rich
When did Audi bring out the 190 bhp 1.8t variant of the A4? The ealiest I've managed to find is a 53 plate. Is that right? That is not an Sline model either. Which models did they put this engine in? Rich

Chav
yes it came out in november 2003. I got one of the first I believe. earliest will be a 53 plate. It went in the A4 sport 190 and that was renamed the s-line early 2004, when they added a few other bits. Edited to add... Both the A4 sport 190 (sometimes called A4 sport Gmbh) and the s-line have identical body kits, eg the new s-line one that seems popular

Rich
Thanks for the info. I don't suppose anyone has the specs of the engine, 30-50, 50-70 type stuff? What is the torque spec? Just checking as I'm lookign to change to a Saab 9-3 vector next month (175bhp) but I don't want to discount the A4 just yet. I don't think my budget will let me stretch to the 190 and I think I still prefer the Saab over the 163 bhp variant.

Saabs aren't renowned for holding their value well at all.
UBM
Good point, expecially with a story on the Audi site (biased though) about the A4 holiding its' residual value even more....

I know the A4 has better residuals, but I'm planning on keeping the car for a good while. Its also a bit cheaper to buy than the A4 in the first place, so I'm thinking in 4 maybe 5 years time, the difference bewteen the 2 cars...they both be worse next to nothing compared to what they are worth now. With that in mind, I'm not bothered about residuals at all...unless anyone can think of another reason I should? I admit, my track record shows I have never kept a car longer than 21 months (thats my record and was the s3), but I really do believe I will keep this one longer, I don't think I will have any other chice, what with looking to buy a house with my girlfriend and trying to get soem savings behind us etc. A new car will by right down on the list...unfortunately!! Standard servicing is cheaper...well comparing to what I paid for my S3. Also I'm considering if I would bother with main dealer servicing, after the warranty is up. Mainly because I epxect the car to be worth very little by the time I;m finished, so what difference will a Saab history make? I'm interested in any examples of how Saab is so much more expensive. You can pm me if thats easier?
Sparky
I'd not compare Saab costs to an S3/S4 as I understand these are generally more expensive to service due to the nature of these beasts. Also, if your Audi is on variable servicing, then it costs more in general - but standard yearly services/10k intervals against Saab's standard intervals is more expensive on the Saab brand. I've got a few friends on our estate with Saabs and when we talked about service costs, they were a little surprised. Typically 20%/30% more. UBM
It's good with the AVS when you don't even need a service for 19-20k!

When I had my S3, at the time there did not appear to be a great difference in the price compared to an A3. Maybe I'll have to check a few things out...
