CarMad
Audi seem to have cut corners on the exhaust on my A3 Sportback. Yes its a double but it doesn't have a chrome finish, cheap skates. It looked good on delivery and I have tried to keep it clean but now it looks very black and sorry for itself. Have tried a bit of T Cut but that seems to have done nothing. Have got some chrome cleaner but can't find it but fear that might have the same non effect. Anyone go any ideas what I can do to clean my black exhaust ? I might have to go and get exhaust finishers at this ratem but thats a bit Chav ish if you ask me, but open to suggestions. UBM
Sounds like you need some chrome zorst finishers! You can't see my zorsts - they're hidden by the rear valance!
CarMad
They are certainly missing the bling factor at the moment that is for sure. Kinda lets down the rear of the car when they look in such a state.
R32Ash
I use 'Solvol Autosol for chrome' (or whatever it's called) on mine. They come up brilliantly with a bit of elbow grease. Even the insides ot the tips! If you can get them shining once, it's easy to keep them that way. Have a look for Riz's post on cleaning his R32 pipes. I'm not sure what he uses, but they look good. CarMad
Cheers boys. I think thats what I bought but can't place it at the moment. Will have a good go and let you know. I used to valet cars as a weekend job in a garage so am a bit of a dab hand but the metal of the exhaust just doesn't look like its going to come up well. Will put my elbow grease on and give it a good go.
CactusGreen
Have tried this? http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext23.shtml Worked great for me...until the Votex kit covered most of my hard work...then just put some BMW tips on, as these were the only ones I could find that were big enough for the 2.4 pipes...2 years on they still look great. CarMad
Yikes quite a lot of effort to do that. I am going to try and see what the chrome cleaner will do and I think I might give that a try in the summer when its not so cold and I can feel my hand ! Thanks for the link I might try it. If I do I will post back and let you know how it goes.

RossG
Yup, 6Degrees attacked my tailpipe at arecent meet with Autosol and it came up very well Shame he didn't bother to clean the rest of the car for me Car looked a bit daft on the way home
CarMad
Well I attacked the exhaust yesterday with some Autosol. It has come up almost like new. Only part that still needs a LOT more elbow grease is the very tip at the bottom. Its really caked and hardened on. I might need a bit of very fine sandpaper or a toothbrush and a lot of time. It was only 2 Degrees c yesterday so didn't want to spend too much time out there.
CactusGreen
...yep but worth it...assuming Audi still use Stailess Steel, once done it will last years...did my mums 80TDi pipes some 4 years back, and even as an oil burner you can still just wipe off the soot with a damp cloth and see your face in the pipes! CarMad
Well I have further news. After a trip out on sunday I happened to go near my local Halfords. I went in and got some bits n bobs one of which was sanding pads that are normally used in the process of preparing and painting a car, they came in three grades coarse, medium and fine. They look like a part of a scouring pad. When I got back I got out the fine pad and gave it a quick go and am happy to report that almost all of the blackend ends on the tips have gone. I only gave it a bit of a try but add in some Autosol and the fine sanding pad I am certain they will come up like new with no damage to the tip ! Thanks all for the help. geo_nr1
I assume going at a chrome finished exhaust with the fine grad would take the chrome off?
CarMad
No its not like sand paper at all. Its like the pads you get for the kitchen really or similar, its certainly not paper. Autosol would make a mess of your paint but not a metal exhaust. The two togeather do the job nicely and with no scratches or marks left. And its either that or black caked on dirt ? Nope shiny exhaust for me please.
