this is my first post and was wondering if anyone had an opinion re best used carrera model in the 35k to 55k USD range. Model year approx 1996-2001.

If your looking to buy a 996...your a lucky man..I love them I'm of the opinion that it looks better than the 997 and there are some good deals around because of the new model..

I'm not sure what you can get for your buck but I would say that the 3.6 was a huge improvement over the 3.4, I would also take a C4 over a C2 and if you can stretch a 2001 C4S would be top of my list...just not sure how much they are over your side of the pond.. Sat Nav is a nice option, makes the interior less plain and is actually a good system, Bi-Xenons IMO are a must as the standard lights really aint that good. As far as other options wheel upgrade is a must the 17" don't look good, so 18" turbo's or 18" Carrera's, even 18" sport design (GT3) would be my choice..

Thanks - it's very helpful - I'm just starting to check the market and I'm prob a year away but it seems you can get an approx 9-10 year old 996 for 35K to 45k USD. Going down to Sebring next month for the 12hrs so I'll be able to check out a lot of cars in the Porsche Corral. Wish I had one now though cause they are letting the first hundred entries of Porsche owners run a lap (albeit a controlled one I'm sure) for the start.
