DVD Writer and Good Colour Printer.

Have read a few reviews that highly reccomend a Plextor DVD writer, very fast extra and miles ahead of everything else apparently.

On the printer front I normally go for HP and they have never let me down. However Cannon Pixma's seem to be winning all the reviews at the moment. They can also print directly onto CDs which might be useful if you are back things up regularly and create a label. You need the right CDs but its tempting for me.

Don't think any are bad these days. The NEC are certainly a lot cheaper. It depends on how much you want that little bit of extra speed.

I haven't had a CD or CDR fail once don't know about anyone else. If the NEC does all you need get that. I haven't looked into it that much yet. Just that is this article they seem to be dribbling about the Plextor, a lot of builders are using it as their top line choice in the configs.

lots of people [particularly those that build "safe" rigs eg for the NHS] only use plextor for its old rep.

The NEC 3520 is very well rated in geek mags and forums and very fast too as is the similar Pioneer 109.

Personally i am going for the NEC3520.

Bang for buck, your best printer will be a canon [its new pixmar range or the old i560/i865 if yo can get them].

the i865 is £120ish and is superb..i have the i560 and print quality is excellent; cheapest inks compared to epsom/HP and thats not even counting generics: replaed the ink recently in 2 printers [black and colour] with generics for £5!
