Mollox
I need to change my MAF sensor tomorrow and need to get hold of the appropriate Torx driver. Any ideas? Will halfords sell them? Been on their site but all I seem to see are 29+ piece driver/ratchet sets. Which I wouldn’t mind but I think I’d like to get a higher quality set when I actually need them. Anyone know if they sell single drivers and what size I’ll need for my MAF? Ta
shao_khan
I can lend you one - is it a plain Torx or one of the security ones with a little 'dimple' in it as well?

UBM
I got a few sets in my cheapo tool kit from Chavros many moons ago - they're still going strong...
AudiPartner
I don't remember needing a torx screwdriver when I changed my MAF. Oh well, I suppose I must have a bad memory! Hoping a squeeze out a couple more horsepower on Sunday are you?!!

Rustynuts
To replace the MAF you'll need a security bit like this (I think) unless the maf has been changed before and someone used normal fixings.
R32Ash
I got a set like the one in Rustynuts' pic. Mine's made by Draper and was about £6 I think from a car spares shop. They'll sell them at Halfords no doubt.
Paul
Mollox you usually change the whole thing, (tube and all) not just the element. i was led to believe even the Audi exchange ones are the complete item.
steve2
iwas told that as\so many are being replaced that they are now doing them on an exchange basis and they just put new sensors in, hope it cures mine when it goes to the stealers on tuesday
Mollox
Yep I got the exchange unit. £78 exchange or £98 without exchange. They're recon'd as i discovered. Its the sensor in its ring i imagine. I haven't opened it yet. Is there anything I need to look out for? IIRC its pop the top off the airbox and the jubilee clip on the other side and then remove the whole unit, right?
AudiPartner
Ah, mine was a complete unit. I'm sure I didn't need torx bits for it. The whole unit cost about £90 on an exchange basis. Get this, the new price was about £220 so they made me pay £20 on top of my £90 which I got back when I returned the old one. So basically if anyone wants a new one I can get them for £110!! Mollox
Thats right - exactly as above. Took 10 mins to change and I can't remember who it was that said Torx screws at the essex meet - feckers! Oh and I can get it for 78+20!
steve2
just done and now goes like a steam train ( well a 150bhp one anyway) Foc
Drillslinger
Just a heads-up to those who want to pull the sensor from the housing. The older MAFs used a 6-point security Torx (25 I "Think") and the newer ones use a 5-point one that is a touch bigger.
