Mollox
Anyone else experienced their cursor just going completely loony? This cylces between 5 good minutes and 2 mins bad. The cursor goes off on its own and is completely impossible to manage. Most annoying. Anyone else?
Si_GTi
Is it a USB mouse? At work we supplied an Inspiron laptop and Targus mini-optical USB notebook mouse to a member of staff, but despite all my best efforts they simply don't get on. The mouse works, but randomly pauses, skips and jumps, very distracting and annoying to work with by all accounts! Tried everything Anyway... is it USB? Mac
I get this on the touch pad on my Dell laptop - drives me f*cking bonkers. The only way I've found to 'deal' with it is to turn the touchpad off in the BIOS, reboot, shutdown and turn it back on again. Bloody pain in the ass. Foggy
I had the same problem on my first Latitude, but ensuring I kept my keyboard clean on my latest one seems to have done the trick. Ocassionally it does go a bit spastic but a quick whizz around the pad with your finger seems to sort it out straight away. Alternatively, if you get the Dell driver you can disable the touchpad from the OS and just use the 'nipple' on the keyboard
UBM
Yes - there is something you can switch off when you first boot-up and set preferences. The problem is that if your fingers are close to the mouse pad when typing, it senses you have actually pressed the mouse and you'll still be typing but somewhere in the middle of a previous paragraph. I imagine you can turn the sensitivity down ? We've got the inspiron 8600C

Big_Dan
If it's under warranty - it's a known fault with the motherboard. Usually happens on Latitude notebooks though.
cruiser647
Ha......I have always lamented and flamed Dell laptops for this very reason. We bought the C610 PIII Latitudes at work for 6 months, before we realised what a cheap pile of poo they were. The existing ones have all gone down with the dreaded cursor to top right of screen affliction. This is irrelevant of it being on a mouse or docked or standalone. It is the keyboard. Change the keyboard, and all will be OK. Better still, sell the Dell and get a Toshiba.

[/ QUOTE ] Can you elaborate on the "known fault" part - a recall by chance? I have a Dell Latitude, still under warranty, and the crazy actions of my cursor are driving me nuts!!! Big_Dan
They didn't do a recall, but of the 20 or so we've had over the past couple of years 2 or 3 have had the same problem. Engineer comes and replaces all the bits and all is sane again!
Turrican
We had the same problem with a dell laptop. It was the thumb mouse pointer thingy thats sits in the middle of the keyboard. We fixed the problem by disabling this in windows.
Big_Dan
Make sure you've installed all the latest drivers for the touchpad as they will make you do this before they'll agree it's a hardware fault. Don't think the new ones have the nipple thing anymore ...
