pauljosullivan
I have an 8V 2.0l Bora, I'm guessing it has the same/similar fuel tank as the whole of the Mark 4 platform. Does anybody else find fuel pumps in service stations irritating, I can only get about £2 of fuel in (even at a modest flow-rate) before the pump 'clicks out'. I've had this problem in all the big garages - BP, Shell, Total and even most of the supermarkets. I can only guess that there is some type of non-return bend or flap that is restricting the flow and building up the level in the inlet pipe. I have heard a rumour that theres some device in German cars that stops fuel piddling out if the car flips in an accident and that this device can provoke the described symptoms (VW man says that the whole problem is normal but so is silly oil consumption and MAFs made of chewing gum and twine). Any thoughts/similar experiences/remedies lads ? Its too brass monkeys this weather to be standing on forecourts dicking around with pumps. UBM
Used to happen to me on my old Mark III golf. Solution : turn the nozzle upside down so the handle is at the top and stand with it behind you - worked every time!
