Part exchange

Hi all

After a bit of advice? If I'm not succesful with my rejection /replacement I'm going to part exchange for a 3.0Q S-line tiptronic.

Thought someone before was given the option of trading in their cab and buying a new one at trade price as an option instead of replacement?

Is the extra £6-8K worth it for an S4, any opinions?

I don't want CVT again so left with only 3.0Q or S4 for an alternative auto, is tiptronic any good?

Glass's guide have valued my car at £28K trade in value, doesn't sound right to loose over £10K in the first year on a cab? Would I get more for trading it in for another cab? The highest value second hand one on the Audi network is £31K but doesn't have anyway near as many extras as mine.

Unfortunately the options aren't going to maintain their value at all. The trade price already includes "desirable" extras (leather, sport pack, 18" wheels) in the initial value. You could swap out the Sat Nav into your new one which would save a couple of grand.

The TDi isn't the most popular either, so that probably doesn't help. The cab is more common now too. All in all, 28k sounds about right frown.gif

The value was with all the extras included - nasty! Been reading up on how to post-install the satnav and it sounds like hell! Fingers crossed the rejection goes through then.

I thought this but was talking to my dealer a few months back and he reckons the TDi's are the easiest to sell on as the higher initial price is lost and second hand prices are closer to the 1.8T. Should have asked for a value then but hey I was staring at an S4 thinking should I/shouldn't, could have been an expensive move.

Either way though she's got to go, if I have to I'll cut the budget and get a 1.8TQ manual - last resort though.

Good lord yes! You will spend extra at the start, but you will also get extra back when you come to sell. So overall, may not be as much as £8k difference. Plus you will have that wonderful V8 under the bonnet, and you will smile at your purchase every single time you drive it. There are no words to describe.

I like it. very smooth gear changes when you are cruising. And when you want to play, is a laugh. Make sure you get the paddles on steering wheel tho.

Good luck with the rejection attempt Berra! Sorry to hear things have got that bad. Have all the problems been transmission related.

Yes I think you will get a stronger value for your car if you trade it against a more expensive Audi. Of course you'll struggle to negotiate a strong discount AND trade in values.

I'd be a bit worried about a 3.0Q tip. The 3.0 gives good economy and performance in FWD manual. Quattro and tip could spoil this making it seem sluggish and thirsty. I'd want to test drive one before commiting.

I'm really keen on the S4 cab but would be very worried about the possible depreciation if you ordered a new one. I've been watching second hand prices and the market appears to be totally stagnant, virtually no-one seems to be managing to sell them.

Would you want all the toys again? There are some high spec ones around second hand.

Cheers

CM

Bearra, its the options that are killing it for you.

An optioned up car is not worth very much difference in value from the same car without bits, but it will sell easier.

From a maintaining value point of view a better car with less options will make more sense than a cheaper car with more extras at the same eventual price.

However, you have to live with and enjoy the car, so you have to balance the simple figures with the fact that if you prefer the car with bigger wheels for example then maybe you have to accept the greater loss but have a car you like more.

Were you thinking it was me ?

When I rejected mine, the discussion on replacement was around a similar car / value but they did say I could play with the options list again. I think as long as the replacement car is similarish in value to your car, you could have what you want within reason probably because it's a level of profit they are expecting to lose. Where they would object is if you rejected a A2 which gives them £2k profit and wanted a S4 at cost which gives them £6k in profit. Having said all this, I'd ask the question cos once they get past the rejection point, it's like buying a new car again.

Cheers guys

Guess ideally an S4 would be fantastic but only if the deal was right.

Just thinking a 3.0Q would be a compromise and performance wouldn't be hurendously slower than the S4.

Well the letters have been sent and the rejection is all official. Been doing some research and Audi finance are answerable for the problems too. Saying that though they have been so helpful, they seem to think I have a very strong case and been treated badly and shouldn't have to accept the problems I have;

Gearbox now judders and lunges (second gearbox)

Brake warning light randomly flashes on

Light switch faulty

Roof header rail making knocking noises - tried lowering roof but just getting worse.

Variable service countdown not working correctly

Climate control randomly goes dead

Still have clunking noises underneath - sounds like exhaust falling off

Fog lights still mist up

If I have no joy though, that'll be the end of me buying Audi's, probably cut my losses and maybe get a Boxster.

The quattro doesnt impact performance that much. 0-60 times arent affected as the increase in traction makes up for the increased weight and friction.

However, you get more toys as standard on the S4, so if you want Xenons etc and you're mileage is under 15K p/a the cost different isnt huge if you go for a base S4.
