shao_khan
Hi, welcome to Tyresmoke. We have a couple of Tech Gurus around the VW forums so you should get an answer soon enough.

Rustynuts
Rob, I'm sorry, I know nothing about the petrol version of the VW's. Now, if you'd bought a diesel, I might be able to help, but it's all too different for me I'm afraid. Tobes is the man for you but he's out of the country right now, and only sticks his face in now and again. Stick around and see if he pops in. Cheers. R32North
Gunge... as in creamish sludge in the cap or on the dipstick. This is 'mulsification' or when water and oil are mixed!! Should cause the car to judder tho, but I can't really comment as I din't know what kind of judder you are on about. I've taken from what you've said that its not a wheel / speed related judder and so must be an engine or gearbox judder. It is a fast or slow judder, is it deep or soft or loud or quiet? All info helps! Also, can you try to slipping the clutch thru the rev range to see if this makes it worse or better? Post again when you know more !! robb1977
ive just checked my car and my mate says its misfiring, tried disconnecting the MAF but that didnt help. the car seems to hesitate then accelerate, i tried dipping the clutch but that doesnt seem to do anything, the cars just had a 60000 mile service. mowgli
Robb, have a look here: http://www.forum.golfgti.co.uk/index.php?PHPSESSID=c116a391f93b708b16faa2df0aae20ad&board=8.0 Yours is the same engine as in the MK3, so the fixes should be the same. Good luck
andrew006
My golf diesel had a similar problem. It sounded as if it was dropping a cyclinder when idling and then would judder until the turbo kicked. The solution from vw was to change the ecu but also to clean out the throttle body+ throttle body position sensor. Rustynuts
I don't think you had a Diesel with a throttle on it, did you?
