simonlewin
Hello, I have a 2004 Allroad 2.5Tdi with 15,000 miles on the clock. A couple of months ago I noticed that there was a bit of vibration felt in the front and steering wheel between 75-80mph (i.e. you can drive 'through' the vibration) I took it to ATS who balanced the front wheels. This didn't make any difference. Then someone mentioned that as it's 4WD, maybe the rear wheels should have been balanced too. I was going to take the car into Audi next week so they could look over everything but passed ATS today to see if they could double check the rear wheels. They had a look and reckon the problem could be down to wear - apparantly there's some 'feathering' and the tread is down to 2mm (and 1.6mm is the legal minimum). They've recommended a new set of tyres for 600 GBP all in and reckon that with wheel balancing etc. it'll feel as new. I'd been warned about the speed with which an Allroad gets through tyres. The guys at ATS have been very helpful - I just wanted to double check all of this seemed to make sense and that the cost doesn't seem way too high. Any comments appreciated! Thanks Simon
Daz
£600 sounds well cheap for 4 allroad tyres, they are normally between £200 & £250 each. Make sure that they are supplying proper allroad tyres. I had a similar vibration on my allroad after I had a new tyre fitted to the rear. Make sure all 4 tyres are balanced properly. grahamb
Change the tyres! I had a bad virbation which was uncurable using a balancing machine. I had to change one of the fronts for the MOT (worn on the outside edge) and its cured the problem. Its a nice car to drive again. My replacement tyres are going to come from www.blackcircles.co.uk

seadweller
Hi Think ours were sub £600, but I would have to confirm that with the Mrs We went for the Pirelli's (as oposed to the Goodyears that were on there) as they look a lot wider, cannot help much with milage as we had to have two new ones following an accident. We had to have new discs (under warranty after a tussel!)on ours too, as the originals warped after 12-18 months Hope this helps
simonlewin
Just to let you know that with 4 new Pirellis on (£600 inc. fitting from ATS) the car's running better than ever! This episode also reminded me that as the rubber's the bit that touches the road, it's well worth keeping an eye on the quality. Cheers, Simon
