wes25
Does anyone know if there is an easy way to turn the A3 single reverse light into a dual reverse light by adapting the right hand side light cluster? I think the single reverse light makes it look pikey, like you can't be bothered to fix it! Any help???
Sparky
If it's anything like the A4 (which has one fog light), the bulb holder is already there. Would it not just be a case of getting another bulb and checking the wiring is there, or are the light clusters different on each side?
Tomk
must admit never noticed that ! not often im behind my A3 reversing ! maybee a poll could sort this out ? im not sure it looks too bad cos loads of cars have only one light
BeakerBuddy
I agree that it looks odd having just the one reverse light...but equally I don't lose any sleep over it.
whimsical_chris
Dont want to hijack the thread, but think its poor about the single rear for in the A4, will have to have a look to see whats in mine later :-) Wonder if its as simple as fitting a new bulb..... Sparky
It's a little bit naff that A4's costing £20k+ are equipped with just one rear fog light, although mine does have two reverse lights. My wife's Corsa has two of everything, so surely Audi can manage!

[/ QUOTE ] Thought that was part of the idea behind safer driving..the single lamp is to indicate in poor visability which side of a vehicle is the drivers side - so a stopped vehical should be safe to pass on the approproiate side.... Sparky
I never thought of that. But wouldn't two lights be better than one?
CactusGreen
...OK, so you are on an unlit country road in the dark, fog so thick you can touch it.... ...driver A has broken down and stopped - but not too well on their side of the road...it's foggy out there you know!! but has the single foglamp on.. ...you round the corner and can see the single lamp...so you move over towards the O/S ..and pass safely... Now driver A did a mod at the weekend - an extra foglamp no less...looks good the them...but whilst out testing it on this foggy night the car stops dead in the middle of the road...no problem they think, I'm lit up like Blackpool Illuminations... ...you round the corner and are blinded by a mass of red light...bam, into the back of stationary car in the middle of the road....what's that doing there? I had not even realised I was driving down the middle of the road... A bit OTT but you get the idea. Other way I look at it is how often do you see dirvers with rear fogs on in the rain? All to often it's not required and just distracts you from seeing the brake lights come on ahead - especially on older cars without the third level one... Sparky
Yeah, a little OTT, but when they did my Bora have twin rear fogs, and many other cars have this two. The two fogs effectively "outline" the size of the car, I can't say they'd blind me - more that I could tell he ain't off the road properly!! I agree about the distraction from brake lights. However full beam with flashing front fogs usually tells them to knock it off.
whimsical_chris
I get the point about one light, but lots of cars have two, and I get the idea that most of the world doesnt get fog so the just putting one on was a way of getting it by the UK rules. Would have thought 2 was better just in case one bulb blows.... C

MikeeB
I've not seen conditions worthy of fog lights for an age now. Most of my driving is up and down the M62(east)/M1 into Leeds and back. It actually pisses me off no end, the amount of drivers who stick on rear fog lights when we have a bit of mist on the motorway, and those stupid matrix signs light up saying "fog" Even worse are those who insist on using rear fog lights in nose to tail traffic (i.e. driving into Leeds Mon-Fri). Why the fook do you need rear fog lights in traffic jams? Rant rant rant......
CactusGreen
Getting side-tracked from the original post now but all good points - think the reason some have the two lights is because it's cheaper to make 'standard' units with the bulbs fitted for left/right hand drive cars...However, Peugeot for example have alway wired in both sides but only place bulbs as per the country...left/right. One things for sure - a little more consideration to other road users woldn't go a miss sometimes.. wohaaa.....I don't like being this high up on the soap box...time to get down me thinks :-)
Sparky
ha ha. Clearly a sore point, but I agree with both posts.
