Booster
Jon, A quick insurance question: We run a few company cars here and pay through the nose for them. Our broker (who we have been with for many years) states that he can't get it any cheaper. What, if any would be the problems involved in us insuring them in our names with someone like Tesco (provided we got business use included)? I'm thinking mainly about the fact that the cars are registered to the firm and not us in our own names. Cheers Booster
Insurance Jon
There's no problem in doing that as long as you have the correct level of business use, and you inform the insurer, you can do this through me BTW as well as tesco! There is only one downside, is that the employee can cancel the insurance to retreive his proof of bonus at any point without your permission as it is their policy. If the employee left and they followed this through it would leave you with an uninsured car. Give me a ring on 01924 895568 and we can do a couple of test quotes, and have a look at the fleet for you as we have excellent facilities. Sales pitch over...Disclaimer: There are other insurance brokers available
Booster
Cheers Jon! Our insurance renewal is May so I will give you a call nearer the time. I thought that the person named on the log book had to be the primary name on the insurance so that they "have an interest in the vehicle". Basically then, the name on the log book is irrelevant? Tomk
i thought you could not purchase a new car unless the insurance is in that persons name?
Botang
Does that not cause issues when it comes to taxing the car, the form will be sent out in the name of the registered keeper, I thought the insurance has to be the same.
Insurance Jon
nope, the insurance just has to have that person as a named driver, and it must show the reg number of the vehicle.
Newbie123
I had this problem when I leased my car through the company as I wanted to keep my own no claims bonus rather than go on a company policy. I went with directline in the end and the policy just states that I am the main driver but not the registered keeper or owner, and they just make a note of the actual owner (lease company) in case of an insurance payout and of course I included the need for business use.
