Racing on the public highway is both illegal and very dangerous. Near where I live 3 young people were killed recently when 2 cars did just that and one driver lost control and hit a tree. If you want to race go to a race track. I've always credited Audi drivers with more sense.

I find it amusing that people ask questions like this.

If you know a bit about cars you should be able to predict pretty accurately what you will/will not keep up with.

There's the odd modded car out there, but not many that have double their original power, so you're always going to have a slight clue...unless they've debadged and de-wheeled and de-exhausted and de-bodypanelled etc.

And if you do beat a half-decent Scooby or an M3... they weren't trying.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to offend. Not going to justify why I do it and I know the risks and it is my intention to take it to track days to really open her up. That said, anyone who's got one got opinions about the car itself which was my main question?

We all put our foot down on the odd ocassion to see give the car and ourselves a bit of stick.

But as with everything these days driving fast or agressively is being frowned upon more an more.

Gone are the days where it is enjoyable to drive on the roads most of the time at any rate.

P.S.

Have had a few plays with some Golf GTIs and PD130/150.. all I am saying is it was fun (Got a 2.0 T FSI Sportback) << Winking Smiley >>

Oh and Welcome to TSN.

Having a quick drag race out of a set of lights is hardly dangerous. 'Racing' is only dangerous when the drivers are.

Speed doesn't kill, careless and dangerous driving does. Audi drivers are no different to any other. They are such mass produced cars that all drivers are different in virtually every marque.

I have a blast out of the lights with lots of cars, and the odd drag on the motorway or a clear dual carriageway, but will never speed in residential, built-up area or on a busy road.

started same kind of thread on another forum and got same response...

anyway here are a few straight line drag (rolling start)with my 3.2:

Lost:

Jaguar XKR (only just)

porsche 911 and M3. They came up behind me while I was flooring it at my local private road (...) when I thought I was alone and needless to say they left me for dead...

TT 3.2 V6 @ traffic light (he was simply a better driver than me or DSG with launch control)

Won:

Golf V6 4motion

Golf Gti

Civic Type R (a few - They're always up for it...)

Saxo VTS modded with 2 chavs (fairly recently)

A4 1.8T

330ci sport

Sigmun V6

Focus St170

Mondeo St220

Smart roadster (dont laugh that one was much quicker than I would have thought, so worth mentioning!!!!)

Regret I have not had the opportunity:

R32, Focus RS, RX8, mini cooper S, boxster (non S)

Forgot to say... if you managed to keep up with a E46 M3, the driver WAS NOT trying. I am not saying there would be a huge amount in it...

[/ QUOTE ]

haven't you just contradicted yourself.

i never said i beat him, i just said i kept up. If it would have been on a motorway, then there's no doubt i'd have been spanked... but off the lights it's a different story, our A3's have awesome traction, huge torque and a weight advantage (M3 SMG not included)

  • 1 month later...

I have a remapped S3, 265BHP, and have kept beat a Boxster in a drag on a dual carriageway, including a couple of islands, he was trying, trust me. Kept up with a Boxster S. Not much in it but. Dealt with a TT 3.2 and A3 3.2 Sportsline. Both trying as hard as myself. Both looked peeved afterwards. BMW330c, 330d, 325, Scooby, not sure which spec but not the latest crazy incarnation, CTR. Had problems keeping up with a chipped Cupra R.

Boxster S just doesn't feel that quick, I know I've had one or 2 seriously quick cars, but I was expecting it to feel quicker than it does. Still, it makes up for it in other ways 169144-ok.gif
