CarlOtt
Hi - Just bought my first VW Golf and whilst the head light units have fog lamps, bulbs and wiring the lighting switch does not have the front fog light position! Does anyone know if the wiring for the lights will be found if I change the light switch? Many thanks
TP27
Carl. Turn switch half a turn for side-lights OR full turn for headlight operation....on either side-light or headlight setting just pull the switch towards you once for front fogs and/or twice for rear fog lights. OK?? Remember, these lights are for use in FOG only and not for daily use....only Chavs drive with front fogs on in the daylight!! Enjoy the new Golf by the way...happy motoring!! Oh, and welcome to TSN...best way to introduce yourself is some pics of the new car! TP.
CarlOtt
Thanx TP27 - The problem is that the switch does not have a front foglamp position to turn it to:-(
TP27
What Golf model is it? I am assuming the switch only has a mode for rear fogs only?
CarlOtt
It is a TDI SE (130) Estate. Bit out of place here maybe but it was the only UK site that I found with a sensible Forum. Yes the switch only has facility for the rear fog.
TP27
Suspect that front fogs were an option on that model then, sorry! I used to have an old price list with Factory Options for VW's but I cannot find it at the moment! (Shao Khan may be able to confirm the factory spec of your car). By the way, you are more than welcome on TSN irrespective of the car you drive!
shao_khan
If you have a look at this image (spec sheet for MK4 golf) you will see that Front fog lights are an option on E, Match and SE spec cars, now I can only assume that this applies accross the range For Estate/hatch/saloon spec cars. CarlOtt
Many thanks Shao - Looking thro a bulb supplier listing it looks as if someone has tried to fit H1 bulbs instead of the correct ones. I will now try to find out if the wiring is hiden in there somewhere - it just might be for commonisation purposes.
shao_khan
No worries - unfortunately I havent managed to find a decent enough wiring diagram that compares the looms on various varients to see how much comonality there is - someone like TObes might know off the top of his head. IF it looks like you have the wiring to the bulbs then it might be worth a trip to a breakers to get a swith and swap your switches over to see if its all live (might be the quickest way). shao_khan
Forgot to say - Welcoem to Tyresmoke. I like the estate, in some markets you can get the estate with either the Bora or Golf front end which I think it pretty cool, doesnt seem to get same support from VW over here. 130 is a nice engine, I really enjoyed mine. CarlOtt
I was originally after a Bora but was told that most are sold to the leasing market - so what did I do but buy an ex leasing Golf Estate-Duh! Seems not so bad and am about to take it to Hastings for funeral then off up to Fife - which all told should whack up a good 1200 miles in short time. I will know it quite well by then. shao_khan
and if you drive it right not much more than 2 tanks of fuel!! The estate is more practical than the bora - the saloon does have a few limitations. Have a good journey, and if applicable sympathies for the funeral.
