cabby
Is there a way of valuing a number plate other than using one of the big companines ? I have a plate to sell and have been told I would be given £1,000 if it is sold by one such company. The issue is that the same company have a plate that is one character different (V vs. U) that is adverstised at over £10k - quite a difference. v15ben
It really depends on who is out there to buy it. If it's a plate that someone wants then they will pay a fair price for it! Ebay has to be the way to go IMO.
Ian_C
You fancy posting on here the vrn? Disguise if you wish to make it invisible to google ie. 'November One 9er 7 Victor Bravo Lima.' Whilst I am no expert on plates, there is a gigantic mark up on them. Been following the DVLA held auctions to get an idea of the systems. Will certainly be buying dateless plates in the future. Back to your original point, goes without saying that one digit different can be important. U is more unusual for a persons name in the UK, whereas V is slightly more common. Along similar lines, these were all bargains, going under the hammer for £900... 5 XVL, 8 BFX, 8 CXS, 9 KWX, 55 PBX, XSL 100, 500 XXT, 911 CXG, 911 SXD, 11 VWX, 11 YJX, 11 DXJ. A8_Tony
I was told by one of these registration companies that they would sell my plate for £450!!!!! Surely it's worth more than that??? S8 November Sierra Uniform
Ian_C
Maybe they are probably valuing it at £450 for the reasons I mentioned above? ie 'S8 CDJ' would be more popular. Ian C

Ian C [/ QUOTE ] Yep I have to say that the DVLA auctions have some seriously good value dateless plates under the hammer on a fairly regular basis. When I get a few more pounds in the bank, I will definitely consider it as a sideline to my main job!
cabby
Thanks for all the advice. Another point that really had me wondering about the value was that newreg gave me a price of £450 in September last year and, when I inadvertently requested a valulation last week, it had gone up to £1,000. Perhaps I should keep going back every couple of months...... Probably being silly but why wouldn't you want to post a reg no. in its normal format i.e. ABC 1234
