Heated seats are a real boon, yes.

Accoustic parking is very useful too, although I guess you have that covered from a retro point of view.

Wind deflector is a must have but can often be picked up on Ebay. All Cabrios have the fittings for this as standard so no worries.

Make sure you have Sport spec.

I really like the Bose but depends how important your music is to you.

All the other essentials are standard, climite control, power roof, centre armrest, alloy wheels, elec windows all round, remote locking etc etc.

Carribean Blue is nice, but not fixate on it if the right car comes along in another colour, the cabrio looks great in all colours, or even silver!

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hurrah the professor has seen the light!

There are only 2 essential options and they are heated seats and the wind deflector.

Do not, and I really mean DO NOT, even consider a cab without heated seats.

Anyone that says they're not essential doesn't drive with the roof down on spring mornings, or down the motorway at 70mph where wind chill can make it feel a lot cooler than it is.

If a cab you like doesn't have the deflector with it, you can usually get the salesman to throw one in for free. Tell them, you would only consider the cab with it. It makes a huge difference to the pleasure of roof-down driving.

Everything else is just toys DM, they don't significantly improve the cab experience. Personally I'd always choose full leather. It adds to the luxury feel, and is easy to clean... the inside of cabs can get dirty more so than a saloon due to roof down driving and occasional rain etc.

Heated seats are a must, when I had my cab, the heated seats were used a lot!! Winter top down driving is a lot easier when you have the warmth from the seats!

My cab had leather, heated seats and symphony 6 disc. I didnt have a lot of spec but what a car that was!

Another question - Am I better buying an older cab and getting more for my money (but with little warranty left) or a newer one, not as high spec, smaller engine and 1-2 years warranty left.

Example - nice spec 3L at Newbury Audi, but no warranty left (02 plate) or a 04 1.8T which is 2k more but 2 years warranty.

Thinking about it DM,

I do rely on my parking sensors a lot... the cab rear window is smaller than the saloon and reversing can be trickier. You can add this anyway if the car doesn't have it.

The BOSE option isn't as good as in the saloon, but still provides good, clear sound at high volume. The lower front door speakers act as twin bass bins. They do a good job, but the roof is accoustically different to the saloon etc, and that, coupled with the lack of a dedicated sub, means the sound is just very good rather than excellent.

If you can't afford a newer 3.0, go for the newer 1.8T. The suspension and gearboxes were revised in 2004.

DM - what you doing posting questions on cabs at 19:06 when you're having a dinner party tonight? You should be helping your missus so you're in the good books for when you tell her you really need to buy a new cab!

Are you going to keep nipping away to check the replies?

DM - if you buy the car from an Audi delaer you get 12 month warranty anyway. The one at Newbury is my old one, I told you about it before. Good price considering the trade in theygave me an da great spec for your needs. The factory warranty runs out in July, see if they will throw in a year AFTER that expiry. The spec on their web-site was wrong as it also has sports suspension (and electric HEATED sports seats and Bose and all sorts, full leather, right colour, why on earth did I sell it? Ah, yes......S4

Right - it's between the newer 1.8T and the 3.0L. Decided the 2.4 is almost as thirsty as the 3L! The fuel figures don't look too bad for the 3.0L. The way I drive I could maybe eek 25-30mpg. I do about 40 miles per day in the week and rarely use the car on a weekend.

I'm straying towards a newer 1.8T but there are a couple of good spec 3.0's about. I think I'd feel better going from and 04 plate to a 53/04 cab than and 02/52 cab!

By the way - I'll never, ever buy a new car again! coffee.gif

I think with the limited mileage I do the fuel is not so important .

I'm currently thinking an older, better specced 3L would be a better investment. It is unlikely to depreciate much more and is a smaller initial outlay than a 1y old 1.8T, which is going to depreciate more.

Anyone any opinion on this?

DM, one thing to consider is that they changed the suspension settings from 02 through to 04 (and maybe later, don't know). 03 was too soft and bouncy, even with Sport. As Ari says, Sport is essential, but also make sure you get 04 if you can.

I mean it - many people on here noticed differences on changing from 03 to 04 cabs, although we also changed other things (Ari went from 03 non-Sport to 04 Sport, I went from 03 Sport FWD to 04 Sport Quattro with a lighter engine). However, the consistent reports of improved ride, mean I would not consider an 03 car personally if I did decide to buy second hand in order to trade up again (e.g. to move to a 3.0 or whatever).
